CAL 20 at EASTERN 14
The Christian Academy JV football team kicked off the season against the
Eastern Eagles on August 24th. Sixteen freshman and sophomore players
took the field against a much larger Eastern squad. Out numbered but not
out matched, the Centurions jumped
ahead to an early 7-0 lead behind the
passing of quarterback Evan Boggs and
the running of Matthew Duvall. The
offensive line of Jack Griffin, Jack
Payne, Trent Wilburn, Nathan Green and Bradan Hafling held Eastern at
bay and Duvall sprang free for a 40 plus yard rushing touchdown to get
CAL on the board first. In the second quarter, Boggs completed a miraculous
pass to Luke "Odell" Paulson who brought in a one handed reception
for another 40 plus yard gain. Boggs completed passes to Paulson, Luke Chambers, Lukas Felty and
others as the Centurions saw their lead climb to 20-0 moving into the third quarter.
The defensive effort of the Centurions
resulted in a shut out of the Eagles in
the first half. The defensive line anchored
by Nathan Green, Tanner Reiser
and others never let the Eagles establish
their running game. Luke Purvis
brought down a crucial interception
and Luke Paulson, Nathan Green and
Duvall led the team in tackles. The
Eagles stormed back to put 14 points on the board but it was too little too late as CAL opened the season
with a victory of 20-14. CAL hosts Central on Monday, August 31 at 6:00 p.m. Come out and cheer on the
Centurion JV team.
