411 Board and Committee Reports President-Elect, Janet Davidsen Presently, I am working on Sponsorship from our Industry Partners to provide exciting programs and events for the upcoming 2013 year. Appropriate placement of our Members on committees is also top priority so they benefit from the experience of participation. Last, I’m working on the BIGGEST networking opportunity for our members. It’s in the works… save the date: April 19, 2013! Communications, Carol Stolt In our strategic effort to establish a strong social media presence for the ASID Illinois Chapter, the communications committee is planning a Social Media CEU on Tuesday January 29th at Chicago Design Team, Arlington Design Center in Arlington Heights. Whether you are an active participant in the various platforms of social media or if you are curious and just don’t know where to start, there will be something for everyone to learn at this event. In addition, an iPad CEU will be presented in February. Learn how this valuable tool can help you in your business from client presentations to managing schedules and documents. Check the ASID calendar at www.asidillinois.com and the bi-monthly ASID Newsbriefs for dates, times and locations. Although it feels that we only just presented the awards to our talented Design Excellence Competition winners, the communications committee is already planning for next year’s competition and gala awards event. We are in the process of implementing a new online competition entry system that will make entering the competition easier than ever before and have chosen another exciting venue for the awards gala. Start planning the projects that you would like to submit and look for all of the entry information on the Call for Entry in the Spring Newsletter. Finance, Rick Gillman While you will often see our Finance Director, Rick Gilman, at a variety of ASID events, much of the work of his committee goes on behind the scenes. The importance of the financial function however cannot be underestimated. Rick is a CPA with 36 years of experience working primarily with interior design firms. As finance director, he works closely with the president-elect to develop the annual budget for the chapter. In addition to the annual budget, Rick is responsible for submitting quarterly financial statements to the national chapter. The quarterly reports are the vehicle for which the member dues are distributed to our chapter! Advocacy, Krystl Loiterman In Advocacy News: The Legislative Symposium is February 1st through the 3rd in Dallas, TX. Mingle with coalitions while learning how you can best advocate for your profession. Also, Capitol Day is slated for Wednesday, April 10th. We are looking for experienced designers for the Design Excellence Awards Committee. This is a great opportunity to get involved and work on one of the chapter’s biggest events! Forward inquiries to asidil@sbcglobal.net. Professional Development, Mary Grether Mary and her committee have been tirelessly planning the 2013 Design Summit scheduled on Thursday, February 28. Details of the event and registration forms can be found on page 12 of this Newsletter. With a theme of “Grow Your Business, Grow Your Partners” this year’s Design Summit is offering .6 hours of CEU opportunities. Membership, Jean Charlton This coming year, members will be provided with a multitude of networking and educational events. Make sure your personal contact information is current with ASID so you get the latest information. There are many ways to stay connected with the Chapter: the ASID IL Chapter website, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Pinterest. Links to all our social networking platforms can be found on the ASID Illinois home page. Peer Groups: To increase participation in peer group meetings, a new peer group leader has been recruited for Chicago and a ‘new’ group has been established for the southwest suburbs. Cynthia Smith will head up the Chicago group and Stephanie Sarris will lead the newly founded southwest suburban group. If you would like to attend a Peer Group meeting, please check the Chapter Calendar on the ASID Illinois website for the next scheduled meeting or contact one of the Peer Group Leaders.
