5. Employment<br />

5.1 The <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>Aboriginal</strong> <strong>Social</strong><br />

<strong>Plan</strong> Project work with the <strong>Aboriginal</strong> and Torres<br />

Strait Islander Employment Network to develop an<br />

employment strategy for the region.<br />

5.2 <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> councils adopt a proactive<br />

approach to employing local Indigenous people in<br />

administrative, management and other positions<br />

and enhancing the skills and work experience<br />

opportunities of existing <strong>Aboriginal</strong> staff.<br />

5.3 <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> councils advocate for<br />

employment of <strong>Aboriginal</strong> workers in appropriate<br />

positions in NSW Government agencies and for<br />

those positions to be adequately supported.<br />

5.4 <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> councils advocate<br />

that service delivery to <strong>Aboriginal</strong> families and<br />

communities would be better supported by the<br />

separation of the Central Coast from the <strong>Northern</strong><br />

<strong>Sydney</strong> region as an administrative and service<br />

region.<br />

5.5 The <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> <strong>Aboriginal</strong> <strong>Social</strong> <strong>Plan</strong><br />

Project work with the <strong>Northern</strong> Beaches Business<br />

Enterprise Centre and other relevant agencies to<br />

provide information about support and mentoring<br />

available to <strong>Aboriginal</strong> people wishing to set up a<br />

small business.<br />

5.6 <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> councils sponsor an<br />

Indigenous Employment Expo within the region to<br />

showcase employment opportunities within all levels<br />

of government, the private and non-government<br />

sectors, both within and outside of the region.<br />

6. Culture and Heritage<br />

6.1 <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> councils continue to<br />

allocate resources to promote and participate in the<br />

Guringai Festival.<br />

6.2 In partnership with local <strong>Aboriginal</strong> residents<br />

facilitate community events and gatherings to<br />

promote cultural heritage and identity within<br />

contemporary society.<br />

6.3 <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> councils work with relevant<br />

agencies and <strong>Aboriginal</strong> organisations to ensure best<br />

practice in providing protection, care and effective<br />

management of <strong>Aboriginal</strong> sites and objects.<br />

6.4 <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> councils seek to comply<br />

with all laws protecting <strong>Aboriginal</strong> sites and objects,<br />

especially in relation to development.<br />

6.5 <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> councils promote the<br />

value of <strong>Aboriginal</strong> cultural heritage to all community<br />

members and prioritise protection, care and ongoing<br />

maintenance as a measure of value to the whole<br />

community.<br />

6.6 <strong>Northern</strong> <strong>Sydney</strong> councils include <strong>Aboriginal</strong><br />

Cultural Heritage in their cultural planning processes.<br />
