MESSAGE FROM MAYOR CARRIER
As Mayor of the Town of Collingwood I am pleased to introduce to your our
Sustainable Community Plan. With the presentation of this plan to our community I
am making this promise to you:
Sustainability is the single most important challenge our time. We have heard the concerns from our
young residents regarding their futures. Will we have fresh water to drink? Will we have jobs”
Where will we live? It is the intention of this Council to provide hope to these young people and to
do our very best to make decisions today that will provide a promising, healthy and productive
future for each of them while maintaining the quality of life enjoyed here today.
In addition, this Plan and nine Core Principles of Sustainability contained within it will help to guide
this Council and Councils of the future in our decision making process. We will continually review
current technology and knowledge to determine whether we are on the path of Sustainability.
During our annual Strategic Planning process we will review our list of actions and measure our
successes, as well as our failures in order to learn from them. We will assign the tools necessary to
achieve our sustainability goals one step at a time.
It is my hope that each resident of this municipality will join me in our efforts to ensure that
Collingwood remains a leader in Sustainability which includes our wonderful natural amenities, our
diverse and vibrant economy; and continues to enhance our community’s overall health and well
being through a social framework that encompasses the arts, culture, heritage and recreation.
