Goal: Enhancing our Arts, Cultural, Heritage and
Recreation Opportunities
What We’ve Heard
Overall, participants wanted a community that promotes and supports a healthy and active population and
balances work and play. Participants recognized that Collingwood is a unique destination for year round
tourists. That said, residents and visitors of all ages and abilities should be able to engage in high quality,
diverse recreational opportunities while respecting and protecting the surrounding natural environment.
Accessible and well-maintained playing fields and recreational facilities should complement the range of
outdoor experiences. The community should continue to host a number of arts and culture events.
Other ideas for arts, culture and heritage opportunities included: more visual art in public places, continued
support for youth involvement in the arts, a physical centre for arts and community gatherings,
implementation of the Leisure Services Master Plan and to continue to be a centre of excellence for events
and conferences.
Current Initiatives
Art and Culture Committee – Town Council committee providing advice and guidance to Council and the
Town of Collingwood.
Re-design of Collingwood Library – Offers services for residents, local gallery for artists and promotes
cultural programs, workshop space, policies and initiatives.
Collingwood and District Historical Society – Provides information and a forum on
the history of the region.
Collingwood Museum – Regional history, marine heritage, archives, programs and
research facilities.
Theatre Collingwood – Offering musical and theatrical productions vital to the
cultural component of Collingwood.
Hosting Heritage and Cultural Events – Elvis and Music Festivals, Farmers Market,
and Doors Open.
Heritage Grant Program – Offering grants to heritage property owners.
Leisure Services Master Plan – A plan that recognizes lifestyle choices and social trends influencing leisure
participation, sport and recreation activity. Sets a clear direction for the activities required by the Town.
ENVIROPARK - Situated in Sunset Point Park, this unique network of play structures was designed to instil in
children an understanding of how everyday life has a direct impact on the environment.
Arboretum – A garden area located in Harbourview Park developed through the Optimist Harbourview Park
Regeneration Project and currently operated by the Collingwood Horticultural Society.
Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts – An organization promoting arts in the Georgian Triangle.
