SPECIAL EVENTS Throughout the year, the Blank Park Zoo hosts a variety of special events that benefit the community by providing entertainment and fun activities for people of all ages. This year, over 130,000 people attended these events, which were made possible through the generosity of community sponsors and the dedicated support of our volunteers. 2007 EVENTS Events include: • Winter Luau: A tropical evening for adults to escape the January winter blues. • Family Friday Night: An exciting series of evenings for families to have fun at the Blank Park Zoo, with family activities, entertainment and special animal experiences. • Zoo Brew: A summer evening series when the Blank Park Zoo becomes a playground for adults, with music, food, drinks and activities to bring out the kid in everyone. • Dreamnight at the Zoo: A special evening of fun and activities at the Zoo for children with special healthcare needs and their families. • 17th Annual Night Eyes: Nearly 29,000 children and adults came to this treat safari of safe and familyfriendly activities, proving that the Zoo is Central Iowa’s favorite place to trick-or-treat. COMMUNITY EVENTS This year the Zoo was also pleased to host a number of events sponsored by other community organizations, including: • Arthritis Walk by the Arthritis Foundation • Run for Ronald by the Ronald McDonald House • 5th Annual Asian Heritage Festival by the Iowa Asian Alliance • IPTV Kids Day at the Zoo by Iowa Public Television • June Jam by Central Iowa Christian Congregations • Latino Heritage Festival by Latino Resources, Inc • Road Rally by the 20/30 Society • Head Start Day at the Zoo by Drake University Head Start • Character Counts Day by Character Counts • America’s Walk for Diabetes by the American Diabetes Association BLANK PARK ZOO 8
