Osman Stated Meeting - March 12, 2013
n Meeting called to order:
Illustrious Sir Donald Harmsen called
the meeting to order at 6:30 PM. All
present were Nobles. Pledge recited,
invocation given by Chaplin Dan Skoog.
n Introduction of Past Potentates::
Henry Paulson PP 2003, Roger Robinson
PP 2008, Michael Awada PP 2010, Frank
Spevak PP 2012.
n Nobles attending their first
meeting: None
n Recorder: Tom West: Motion made
to accept the minutes from the Stated
Meeting held January 8, 2013, as printed
in the Osman. Motion passed.
n Treasurer's Report: Russ Christofk
gave the Treasurer's report. A motion was
made to accept the report as given. The
motion passed.
n Trustee's Report: Trustee Jim Gratias
gave the report. Motion made to accept
report. Motion passed.
n Oriental Guide: Rich Purcell reported
there was one demit – Kevin Schmit.
n Chief Rabban: Roger Berge gave the
report on the associations, affiliations,
restorations and new creations.
Restorations: Charles Borneman, Marc
Hammero. New Creation: Dr. Cary
Mielke. New Candidates: Clarence
Cloud, Mark Poulson and Ian Cumming.
n Black Camel Report: High Priest
and Prophet Bruce Thomas read the list of
Nobles who have passed since our last
meeting. A moment of silence followed

Chanters honored their memory with a
song. John Bierman, Delmore

n Good Cheer Report: Second
Ceremonial Master Anders Haugen gave
the Good Cheer report. These Nobles are
now or have recently been ill: P.P. Marvin
Edelstein, Ron Williams, Eddy Smith,
Charles Rios, Rich Johnson, Russ Christofk,
Roger Berge, Arthur Stambaugh, Jim Smith,
and Don Leslie.
n Hospital Report: Recorder Tom
West set up the latest Hospital video
which showed a number of testimonials
from previous patients. This video is
available for Shriners to use in their
Lodges or other organizations.
PP Henry Paulson gave the report.
Illustrious Sir Paulson reported that we
are close to a proposal in our negotiations
with Mayo Clinic. Hopefully, we will see
a resolution in the near future. We are
setting up a clinic in Grand Forks, and we
are looking at opportunities for setting up
clinics in outlying areas. Illustrious Sir
gave a report on the success of third party
payment. He also distributed cards to all
present that we can give to anyone who
may need our Hospital services. There is
no longer a long application process. The
parents of the child can call the number
on this card directly and set up an
appointment. This will allow us to get the
child into the system immediately.
Illustrious Sir Paulson reported that he is
going off the Hospital Board in 8 months.
He stated that he
has thoroughly
enjoyed his time
on the Board. He
stated that if you
have need of a
speaker for your
Lodges or any
other
organizations,
please contact
him, and he will
come and tell the
Hospital story.
n Circus Report: John stated that the
Circus is April 4, 5, 6, and 7th. All is
going well. He invited all Nobles, their
Ladies and family members and friends to
come and help at the Circus. We can sell
tickets up until March 22. Set-up will be
Monday, April 1, starting at noon.
n Membership report: Warren Lynch
reported that we currently have 177
members who have not paid their 2013
dues. Warren is working on putting
together a Membership Committee. He
reported that we will be having “Rush
Parties.” Illustrious Sir Harmsen, Warren
Lynch, Roger Berge and Mark Galloway
visited El Riad Temple in Sioux Falls to
observe them put on their Rush Party.
We will possibly do Rush Parties in
Alexandria, St. Cloud, Albert Lea, Austin,
Mankato, and Rochester. The first
Ceremonial this year will be held on May
4 at Plato.
n Chief of Staff report: Assistant Chief
of Staff Al Christofk reported that the
Shriners first Fun Day Sunday will be on
St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 4:00 PM –
7:00 PM. A Corned Beef and Cabbage
buffet will be served and the cost will be
$15.00 per person. The Fun Day Sundays
will be the third Sunday of each month.
The Circus is April 4-7, with set-up on
April 1 at noon. The After-Circus party
will be Monday, April 15, at 6:00 PM at
the Osman Event Center. Hospital Day
will be held on May 17 with lunch at
11:30-12:45, program starts at 1:00 PM.
That evening, May 17, will be the Night
at the Ball Game, Minnesota vs. the Red
Sox. Tickets will cost $19.00 each. You
can reserve your ticket(s) through the
Shrine Office, but checks need to be made
out to Shriners Hospital for Children.
Reservations must be in by April 10. The
90th Anniversary Celebration for Shriners
Hospital for Children will be on May 18,
from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the
Hospital. If you plan to attend this
celebration, please RSVP to #612-596-
6112 by Friday, May 10. There will be a
parade and carnival at this event.
The MSA Summer session will be held in
Duluth, August 15 – 17. Room rates will
