B’nei Mitzvah
Austin Litt
November 21, 2009/4 Kislev 5770
Austin is currently a 7 th grade student
at the Arthur I. Meyer Jewish Academy
where he serves as Vice President of
the middle school. He has always
excelled in his studies and in April of
last year took home a third place
award in the State of Florida Science Fair competition in the
category of environmental science. Last spring he was also
nominated by the administration of his school, along with four of
his peers, to attend the Junior National Young Leaders Conference
in Washington D.C. and has received Student of Distinction
recognition by the administration in the areas of Scholarship,
Leadership, Character and Service.
Once a month Austin volunteers at the St. George's Soup
Kitchen, helping to serve meals to the less fortunate members of
our community. Austin's interests and talents are quite varied. He
is getting closer to his black belt in Tae Kwon Do, takes tennis and
piano lessons, is quite an accomplished magician and is teaching
himself to play the guitar. His real love, however, is making movies.
Austin always has a video camera in his hand and he is becoming
quite good at negotiating the editing programs available on his
computer. It is with great joy that we celebrate, in the tradition of
our ancestors, our son Austin being called to the Torah as a Bar
Mitzvah. We look forward to sharing this wonderful day with all
of our family and friends.
Nathan Callahan
December 12, 2009/25 Kislev 5770
Nathan Callahan was born in Florida and
has lived his entire life in West Palm
Beach. That has not kept him from
traveling to many places. He has spent
three summers at Camp Ramah Darom
in Georgia, and one summer at Camp
Ramah in the Poconos. He enjoyed
working with animals, playing hockey and
hiking. He even survived swine flu while
at camp last summer.
Other travels have taken him to Cape Cod, Montana, and Toronto
to visit relatives and to Utah to ski. In the summer of 2008 he
joined his brother Noah and other members of his family on a Bar
Mitzvah Pilgrimage to Israel. It was an amazing experience and
Nathan plans to go back again soon.
Nathan has been a student at the Meyer Academy from
Kindergarten to the present. This year he was selected to
participate in the Duke University Talent Identification Program. His
favorite subject is science and he loves to read mysteries and
adventure stories. One of his hobbies is photography and he enjoys
developing and printing on the computer with his grandfather.
Nathan is Kadimah Vice President of Communications at Temple
Emanu-El and is racking up points this year as a member of the Yad
Sqad.
In his spare time, Joshua plays baseball and loves to golf with his
grandparents. He also enjoys playing video games with his
brother, Michael. Joshua spends his summers at Camp Chen-A-
Wanda in Wayne County, Pennsylvania. This past summer, Joshua
was nominated and honored to participate in the Junior National
Young Leaders Conference in Washington D.C.
