Prospectus 2007 30/8/06 15:23 Page 10 8 Computing In a world of industry and commerce where the use of computers is becoming more dominant and the need for staff with those skills necessary to develop and utilise the computing systems to the full advantage is the Computing course. Computing Designed to develop skills in the use and understanding of computer systems the AS and A2 course offers a lot to those interested in furthering their career or just raising their awareness of how to understand computers and systems in greater detail. The course offered is the Welsh Joint Education Committee GCE in Computing. The course is either for one year at AS level or two years at A2 level and consists of a number of units that will extend your knowledge of how computers and computer systems function. The aims of the AS Computing course are to encourage you to: ● Develop an understanding of the principles of problem solving using computers; ● Develop an understanding of the range of applications of computers and the effects of their use; ● Develop an understanding of the organisation of computer systems including software, data, hardware, communications and people; Gain the skills needed to apply your understanding to develop computer based solutions to problems. At A2 level the course aims to encourage you to: ● Develop an understanding of the main principles of system analysis and design; ● Develop your capacity to think critically and develop a broader perspective of the subject; ● Develop management skills and the need for teamwork. Prospects: A Level Computing is invaluable for anyone going on to a computer science course at a higher level. If you are considering going straight into employment the skills learned during the course will put you ahead of the field. Entry Requirements Grade C or above at GCSE I.C.T. or Computing and 3 or 4 other good passes. Syllabus WJEC A and AS Level Assessment: Two examined units in each year along with one piece of coursework. Weightings: AS Level: CP1 = 16.5%, CP2 = 16.5% and CP3 (Coursework) = 17% A2 Level: CP4 = 16.5%, CP5 = 16.5% and CP6 (Coursework) = 17% Computing would go well with …. You will be able to study a wide range of different playwrights whilst developing your own dramatic techniques and skills. Theatre visits are an essential part of the course. Entry Requirements No prior qualification are necessary but we prefer GCSE Drama or English A-B, as the course is highly text based. A keen interest in the theatre is essential. Specification Edexcel Drama & Theatre Studies Unit 1- Exploration of drama & theatre-15% externally assessed coursework. Unit 2 - Text in performance 1- 20% externally assessed coursework and practical. Unit 3 - Text in context 1 - 15% externally assessed - 2 hour written paper. A2 - 3 Units: Unit 1 -Devising - 20% internally assessed and moderated. Unit 2 -Text in performance 2 - 15% externally assessed practical. Unit 3 -Text in context 2 -15% externally assessed 2 hour written paper. Drama would go well with …. A wide range of subjects but especially the Arts and English.
