ENVIRONMENTAL <strong>ENGINEERING</strong><br />
· Emphasizes groundwater flow,<br />
contaminant migration, design of landfills<br />
and environmental cleanup.<br />
GEOTECHNICAL <strong>ENGINEERING</strong><br />
· Focuses on site investigation, design of<br />
foundations, tunnels, excavations, dams,<br />
reservoirs, landfills, roads, railway grade,<br />
slope stabilization, mine excavations and<br />
forestry.<br />
MINERALS AND FUELS<br />
EXPLORATION <strong>ENGINEERING</strong><br />
· Concentrates on developing skills<br />
in petrology as well as geology and<br />
economics of ore deposits or petroleum<br />
and coal. Foundation courses in<br />
geotechnical and environmental are also<br />
taught.<br />
Geological Engineering students apply the principles of engineering,<br />
chemistry and physics. This interdisciplinary program combines aspects of<br />
earth sciences, Civil Engineering and Mining Engineering with a fundamental<br />
understanding of natural processes, materials in<br />
the earth surface and near-surface environments.<br />

· Evaluate landslide hazard and<br />
design control strategies<br />
· Design mine pit-slopes<br />
· Design management strategies and<br />
control structures for mine tailings and<br />
waste rock<br />
· Assess and develop conventional and<br />
unconventional hydrocarbon reservoirs<br />
· Conduct geophysical surveys for<br />
geotechnical or resource applications<br />
