Volunteer Uniforms All of the 2008 AWG volunteers will be very recognizable in the specific volunteer uniform. All volunteers will be wearing a red and black jacket with the AWG logo and the Northwestel logo embroidered on the front. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask a volunteer. things to notice There are some specific jacket colours for some of the volunteers: • Medical – lime green • Officials – blue • Security – yellow • Youth Ambassadors – dark green • All Volunteers – red and black Security The 2008 AWG security personnel will be stationed at all venues, in highly visible yellow jackets. If there is a security issue, please inform the nearest security volunteer and they will assist you in resolving the issue. Money Exchange There are a number of banks in town that will provide money exchange services to all AWG participants. CIBC, Royal Bank, Bank of Montreal and TD Bank are all available in the downtown core as well as automated teller machines strategically placed at all venues and businesses around town. Recycling We encourage all visitors to recycle as many items as possible. There will be recycling bins at all venues, so be on the lookout for containers for cardboard, mixed paper, aluminium cans and plastic drink bottles. 28
Restaurants There is a wide selection of restaurants throughout Yellowknife, with family dining, pub food, breakfast, sandwiches, fine dining and ethnic selections such as Chinese food, Indian food and sushi. Shops Yellowknife also has a vibrant cross-section of shops to purchase books, outdoor gear, clothing, souvenirs, beauty salons and spas, art galleries, electronic equipment, and specialty shops for chocolate, home décor and unique cultural accessories. Foxy’s Den Gearing up for the Games has never been easier with two outlets for the AWG’s great gear. Our main store, located in the Panda II Mall, has everything from outerwear, mugs, hats, blankets and pook toques! During the week of the Games, we will also be operating out of the PSAV Room on the mezzanine level of the Multiplex. Panda II Hours: • Saturday, March 8 – 10:00 am to 8:00 pm • Sunday, March 9 – 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm • Monday to Friday, March 10 to 14 – 10:00 am to 8:00 pm • Saturday, March 15 – 10:00 am to 6:00 pm • Sunday, March 16 – 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm PSAV Hours: • Sunday, March 9 – 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm • Monday to Saturday, March 10 to 15 – 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm things to notice 29
