will welcome Horners and their
guests at the following:
11 th March: Short City Walk and Noggin & Natter
19 th March: United Guilds Service at St
Paul‟s Cathedral and Luncheon
6 th – 9 th May: A long weekend in Avignon
18 th May: Peter Pan at the Barbican Theatre
followed by a buffet reception with Director and
cast
3 rd June: Dinner with cabaret at Painters‟ Hall with
a charity blind auction.
Inter-Liver Bridge Competition
On 1 st March 2010 Past Master Ray Anstis and his
son Court Assistant David Anstis competed in the
Inter-Livery Bridge Competition and upheld the
honour and prestige of the Horners by finishing a
very creditable 7 th out of 60 pairs taking part.
Caption Competition
You are invited to submit your thoughts as to what
our Clerk, Raymond Layard, was saying to the
Prime Minister‟s wife, Mrs Sarah Brown, on the
occasion of the Service of Remembrance at
Westminster Abbey on 11 th November 2009 to
commemorate the passing of the last survivors of
the Great War. Please submit your entry to the
Editor (johnmaccabe@aol.com) and the Clerk will
select the winner who will receive a bottle of Single
Malt whisky from the St. George‟s Distillery in
Norfolk. Closing date for entries is 23 rd April 2010.
24 th June: Election of Sheriffs and Luncheon
14 th July: Visit to the Surrey Hills plus Luncheon
14 th September : Visit to Hever Castle including a
private lunch in the Astor Wing.
21 st September: Short City Walk and Noggin &

29th September: Election of Lord Mayor
in Guildhall and Luncheon
7 th October : Annual Banquet in
the Mansion House
11 th November: Ralph Anderson Lecture in
the Royal Institution and Supper
16 th December: Carol Service in St
James Garlickhythe and Supper
20 th January 2011: Common Hall and
Dinner
Editor’s Footnote
I hope you have enjoyed reading the first copy of
Hornblower under my editorship. I would like to
pay tribute to my predecessor, Court Assistant
David Brown, for the very high standard he has set
and which I will endeavour to maintain. I would
also like to thank him for his help and guidance.
My thanks also go to those who have contributed
articles and to David Oxley and Mary Hunt for
their photographs. Articles for future editions are
always most welcome.
