Liveryman Hugh Moss was then appointed and invested as Assistant Clerk in place of Liveryman Richard Baker who had served in the office since December 2003. she is set to become Master in 2012 and will become the first lady ever to hold this office. The Master congratulates liveryman Hugh Moss on his appointment as Assistant Clerk The Master duly installed his elected successor Colin Temple Richards, as Master of the Worshipful Company of Horners who received warm applause from all present. The new Master, Colin Richards, thanked Michael Hart for his services as Deputy Master and presented a Past Master‟s badge to him He then Installed Mark Spofforth as Deputy Master and presented him his badge of office. Our new Master then proceeded to install the elected Wardens – David Arthur Williams as Upper Warden and Georgina Elizabeth Mary Scott as Renter Warden both of whom thanked the Court for the confidence shown in them. The Master congratulates Georgina Scott on her appointment as Renter Warden. Carmen Hart and Gaynor Richards were then invited into the court and Carmen invested Gaynor with the badge of the Master‟s Lady Gaynor Richards and Carmen Hart The Master installs David Williams as Upper Warden The Master expressed his gratitude to the Court for the honour bestowed on him and commented that this was an historic day for the Horners for by the appointment of Georgina Scott as Renter Warden 2 Lead by the Beadle, the Master, Wardens, Deputy Master, Clerk and Assistant Clerk leave Painters’ Hall for the Church Service.
With the conclusion of the Installation proceedings we left Painters‟ Hall and made our way to the Church of St.James Garlickhythe for the traditional service of thanks for the year past and prayers for the year ahead. Following the Horners Introit by Richard Glasspoole and the National Anthem, we were welcomed by Reverend John Cotton who conducted the service in the absence of our new Honorary Chaplain, Alan Griffin, who was unwell. The lesson for Candlemas was read by the Master and Reverend Cotton delivered a sermon. Hymns for the day were „Lord Divine All loves Excelling‟, O worship the King, all glorious above‟ and „Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer‟. Following the prayers for the Queen and the Royal Family and the Horners‟ Company, as no church service was held last year due to the catastrophic weather conditions, we commemorated the Faithful Departed of both 2008 and 2009 in particular the following Horners :- Eric Peter Butler Malcolm Dransfield Campbell David John Evans George Taylor Howd Douglas Eric James Hunt Charles MacKechnie-Jarvis Bertie William Mason John George Pax Weatherlake Following the service we returned to Painters‟ Hall where 114 Horners and their guests enjoyed a splendid reception and luncheon. The Loyal toast and the toast to the Royal Family were both given by the Master. He also proposed the toast to the Lord Mayor and the City of London Corporation. In his toast to the Master and the Deputy Master Senior Past Master Newton Grant pledged the full support of the Company to our new Master and in a tribute to the Deputy Master cited him as great ambassador for the Horners. In his response the Master expressed his delight at becoming Master and then paid tribute to Past Master Eric Hunt who had just attended his 116 th Court Meeting, having held all posts in the Company except Chaplain. He then introduced the new members, gave brief details of the year‟s social programme and as well as his nominated charity, SmileTrain whose representative, Meg Flanagan, gave a few words. The Master also congratulated Past Master David Rogers on having the status of Past Master Emeritus conferred upon him and Liveryman Hugh Moss on being appointed Assistant Clerk. Finally he gave thanks to Reverend John Cotton for standing in at today‟s service, to retiring Assistant Clerk, Liveryman Richard Baker, to Honorary Freeman Richard Glasspoole for his music over the last 25 years and to Becker Scholar, Duncan Rock for his fine singing today. Past Master Eric Hunt thanked the Master for his kind words before the final toast of the day which was given by Past Master Jeremy Spofforth to The Worshipful Company of Horners. Annual Banquet A total of 279 Company members and guests attended our annual banquet in the Egyptian Hall of the Mansion House on 1st October 2009, under the guidance of our Master, Mr Mark Spofforth. The Master with upper Warden Colin Richards and Renter Warden David Williams Due to the unavoidable absence of the Lord Mayor, Alderman Ian Luder, who was promoting the City abroad, the Guest of Honour was Lord Mayor Locum Tenens, Lord Levene who was accompanied by Lady Levene.
