“Memories of Elvis” Wows the Crowd
By Michael Kircher
Publisher
Elvis was sighted in old town Fenton on the evening
of Saturday, August 22nd. Well, maybe it wasn’t the
real Elvis, but for a real Elvis fan, you could imagine it
was him. This was a unique Elvis experience.
According to Steve Davis, there’s a difference
between a performance and an experience. For over 33
years, artist Steve Davis has been wowing the crowds
with his “Memories of Elvis.” Steve says there is a difference
between an impersonation and a recreation.
Anyone that saw Elvis in concert will tell you it wasn’t
a performance- it was an experience.
At the “Memories of Elvis” performance at the
American Legion Post 400 on Old Gravois in Fenton,
it was all in the details. Steve Davis’ exhaustive
research into an Elvis live event took you on a journey
through Elvis music from the early Sun Recordings to
the later Las Vegas showroom experience.
The show at the American Legion was done in front
of a full house. A standing room only crowd took a trip
back in time for a great performance. The show started
with the nationally renowned Rivertown Sound, a harmonizing
quartet. Next came a visit by Patsy Cline,
singing Crazy, Walking after Midnight, I Fall to Pieces,
and more. Then Buddy Holly dropped in for a performance.
When Elvis took the stage, I mean Steve Davis, the
crowd was electrified. Performing many hits, such as
Jailhouse Rock, Don’t Be Cruel, Hound Dog, Love Me
Tender and an amazing rendition of the American
Trilogy.
This was the first concert-type event at the American
Legion. The purpose was to raise funds for disabled
veterans. According to Post Commander Sid Staton,
the event was a huge success.
