DR. ELLIOT PELLMAN<br />
MEDICAL DIRECTOR<br />
MANAGEMENT<br />
Dr. Elliot J. Pellman has been the New York Islanders’ Medical Director since 1996, supervising all aspects of the Islanders’ and the organization’s AHL affiliate<br />
Bridgeport Sound Tigers’ medical care. The Bay Shore native is the co-founder and Medical Director of ProHEALTH Care Associates in Lake Success, which is<br />
the largest private multispecialty medical group in New York State.<br />
Dr. Pellman is the Medical Advisor for the National Football League, administrating NFL health committees and serving as the medical liaison to the league’s<br />
Clubs, Competition Committee, team physicians, team athletic trainers, the NFL Players Foundation and the National Football League Players Association.<br />
Since 2003, Dr. Pellman has served as the Medical Advisor for Major League Baseball and in that capacity advises the Baseball Commissioner’s Office as it<br />
relates to the league’s medical committees, medical consultants, medical grants and medical education initiatives. Dr. Pellman was the Medical Director<br />
and Team Physician of the New York Jets Football Club from1988 until their 2009 move to Florham Park, New Jersey and now serves as a medical advisor<br />
to the Club’s management.<br />
Dr. Pellman has received numerous honors including the 2007 National Hispanic Medical Association Health Leadership Award and the 2008 New York Chapter<br />
Arthritis Foundation Sports Leadership Award. Dr. Pellman is a Clinical Professor of Medicine and Orthopaedics at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine.<br />
DR. MICHAEL YORIO<br />
<strong>IN</strong>TERNIST<br />
Dr. Michael Yorio, MD is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and has a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. He completed his undergraduate<br />
degree at Villanova University and received his medical degree from SUNY Health Science Center at Syracuse. Dr. Yorio trained in internal medicine at the<br />
Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina. He completed his sports medicine fellowship with the University of Maryland in Baltimore. During his<br />
training, he had the opportunity to work with the medical staffs of the Carolina Panthers and the Baltimore Ravens of the NFL, the Charlotte Checkers of the<br />
ECHL, the University of Maryland – College Park, the University of Maryland – Baltimore County, and Coppin State College. He served as Team Physician for the<br />
University of Maryland – College Park Terrapins from 2003-2005.<br />
In 2008, Dr. Yorio was named the Director, Player Medical Services for the US Open Tennis Championships in Flushing Meadows, New York. He has been a volunteer<br />
member of the USTA Sports Science Committee since 2007. Dr. Yorio is Team Physician for the Molloy College Athletic Department, as well as a member<br />
of the medical staff for the New York Islanders.<br />
Dr. Yorio’s practice focuses on athletes and weekend warriors with osteoarthritis, acute and chronic musculoskeletal ailments, concussions, athletes with<br />
chronic and acute medical conditions, nutritional issues, and general medical disorders. Dr. Yorio is an active member of the United States Tennis Association,<br />
the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine.<br />
DR. BRIAN NERI<br />
HEAD TEAM ORTHOPEDIST<br />
Dr. Brian Neri attended Boston College for his undergraduate education and received his medical education at Loyola University Chicago where he was honored<br />
with induction into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at New York University-Hospital for Joint Diseases,<br />
where he served as an administrative chief resident and was awarded the resident teaching award. He subsequently completed an extra year of fellowship<br />
training in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. During his fellowship he served as team<br />
physician for Loyola Marymount University, and associate team physician for the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Sparks and part of the medical staff for the<br />
Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Galaxy, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, Los Angeles Avengers and USC Football. He also received the Kerlan-Jobe Clinical<br />
Research Award for his research on superior labral tears in professional overhead throwers.<br />
While Dr. Neri treats all musculoskeletal conditions, his practice is focused on arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery with particular interest in shoulder<br />
replacement surgery, rotator cuff tears/labral tears, ACL tears, and disorders of the hip (labral tears/femoroacetabular impingement/gluteus tears/snapping<br />
hip). He has published and lectured on topics ranging from the management of massive rotator cuff tears, superior labral tears in elite overhead athletes to<br />
femoroacetabular impingement. He is the team orthopaedist for the New York Islanders Hockey Club and orthopedic consultant to Hofstra University, Molloy<br />
College, SUNY at Old Westbury and US Open Tennis. He is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Society<br />
for Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Association of North America.<br />
DR. STEVEN ROKITO<br />
TEAM ORTHOPEDIST<br />
Dr. Steven Rokito is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports related injuries. He is the orthopedic division chief of sports medicine at<br />
Long Island Jewish Medical Center and North Shore Hospital, Manhasset. Dr. Rokito grew up on Long Island and graduated first in his class from Roslyn High<br />
School. He received his Bachelor of Arts and Medical degrees from Boston University where he graduated with honors and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha<br />
medical honor society.<br />
Dr. Rokito completed his general surgery internship at NYU and is a graduate of the orthopedic residency program at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York.<br />
Following residency, he then completed a sports medicine fellowship at the prestigious Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic in southern California. Dr. Rokito’s clinical<br />
practice focuses on both nonsurgical and surgical care of upper and lower extremity over use and traumatic injuries. He is a strong proponent of exercise therapy<br />
and employs state of the art surgical techniques when needed to help restore musculoskeletal function and alleviate pain. He enjoys seeing patients of all ages<br />
from “little-leaguers” to senior citizens. He is the orthopedic surgeon for many area high schools, local collegiate athletes, team physician for the Long Island<br />
Ducks, and associate team orthopedist for the New York Islanders Hockey Club.<br />
During the course of his orthopedic training, Dr. Rokito won awards for best clinical research. He has published articles in leading orthopedic journals and has<br />
presented his research at regional and national orthopedic meetings. He has a continued commitment to education and was awarded “Teacher of the Year in<br />
Orthopedics, 2010” for the NSLIJ Health System by the orthopedic residents. He is an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at the Hofstra – North Shore/LIJ<br />
School of Medicine and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and an active member of the<br />
Arthroscopy Association of North America.<br />
