There are six advance works
contracts involved in the second
DBO bundle, as follows:
Contract no. 1: Site investigation
works. These are
completed.
Contract no. 2: Installation
of a rising main and reservoir
on Glinsk/Creggs GWS as
well as laying 36,700m of
main on the amalgamated
Cappataggle GWS.
The rising main and reservoir
have been constructed,
while pipe-laying is nearing
completion on road sections
of the Glynsk-Creggs
upgrade.
Almost 6 kms of watermain
has been laid in Cappataggle
to date and welding of the
main has commenced in the
Killoran/Killalaghton area.
Contract no. 3: Installation
of about 48 kms of pipework
and metering on CBC Group
Water Scheme.
Work commenced in
December and 6 kms of
pipework have been laid to
date.
Contract no. 4: This contract
includes laying over 43
kms of pipework and
installing meters on the West
Galway schemes, including
Ballinakill Moyard, Loch
Hibirt (Leitir Maoláin),
Clonbur Cornamona,
Kilconieron, Barnaderg,
Gallagh and Bullaun GWS.
The tender recommendation
report has been issued to
Galway County Council.
Contract no. 5: This
involves the laying of 35
kms of pipes and metering
on schemes in south Galway,
including Lydacan,
Ballyaneen Rakerin, Abbey
Kylemore, Peterswell
Castledaly and Kiltiernan.
The tender was expected to
be advertised before the end
of March.
Contract no. 6: Installation
of 23 kms of pipes and
meters at Menlough GWS.
The closing date for tenders
was 4 March. These are currently
being assessed.

The AGM of Galway
Federation of GWS took
place on 13 February.
NFGWS Development officer,
Karen Mulkeen, gave a
presentation on the Drinking
Water Regulations (ST
278/07) and the Water
Services Act.
Several other important
issues, including management
of group schemes,
Quality Assurance, Health &
Safety and communications
were discussed.

Kiltevna and Toberowen-Lissybroder Group Water Schemes opened the doors of their DBO treatment plant to the pupils of Gortaleam National
School on Wednesday, 6 February. The scheme wanted to demonstrate to pupils the fact that water is a precious resource and should be conserved.
