Ballycroy GWS recently
appointed a part-time manager
to help with the process of
preparing for commissioning
of their new water treatment
plant.
Commissioning has been
delayed because of raw water
quality issues. A drum filter
is being installed upstream
from the plant in order to
address this issue.
A 5 km section of critical
mains has been replaced and
the process of switching consumers
over to the new network
is about to commence.
This should reduce the
amount of water loss on the
network.

There are similar raw water
issues in Killeen GWS and a
drum filter is also being
installed there.

A full-time manager has been
appointed by Fahy GWS.
The DBO treatment plant is
at an advanced stage of construction,
with Mechanical &
Electrical installation progressing
well.
Commissioning of the plant
should take place in April or
early May.

Nine of the thirteen plants in
Mayo DBO bundle 1 are now
operational. They include
B r a c k l o o n / S p a d d a g h ,
Laghta, Lough Carra,
Drummin, Lough Mask/
Creevagh, Kilmeena,
Glenhest, Kilmovee/Urlaur,
and Belderrig.

The Part 8 planning application
for Mayo DBO bundle 2
will go before the April
meeting of Mayo County
Council. This process was
delayed following the intervention
of The National Parks
& Wildlife Service who
raised concerns about plans
for some schemes in the bundle
that are located in Special
Areas of Conservation
(SACs).
TSSL Ltd won the tender for
for this bundle and contracts
will be signed following the
formal granting of planning
permission for the various
works.

Almost 50 km of piping has
been laid by Carty
Contractors out of a total of
90 km in the advance works
contract. Currently the contract
is running 2 months
ahead of schedule.
Most of this pipe has been
laid in the PBKS (Prizon,
Ballyvary, Keelogues &
Straide) area.

Mayo RWMC held its quarterly
meeting in Castlebar on
Wednesday 26 March.
The meeting heard that the
land ownership dispute that
has delayed construction of
the DBO treatment plant at
Glencorrib GWS remains
unresolved.
A resolution passed at a
Special General Meeting of
Glecorrib members on 29
January reads ‘that this SGM
of Glencorrib GWS here
authorises and instructs the
management committee to
take whatever action is
deemed necessary to protect
our existing rights and legal
entitlements at out intake
works and pumping station
site, at Lough Corrib and to
secure this site for the completion
of our new water
treatment plant and associated
works.’

Logboy GWS and Sraheens
(Aghagower) GWS have
connected to the public main.
Coogue, Larganboy and
Holywell schemes are still
awaiting permission to connect.
Upgrading of Keenagh
GWS is in progress and
should be completed by mid-
2008.

Kilcummin, Moyne/Meelick,
Rathoma, Tooreen/Fotish,
Tiernaur were recently takenin-charge.
The takeover of
process is well advanced in
the case of Brize,
Cloonfinnaun, Cloongullane,
Logacurra, Farragh, Lakehill,
Bollinglana and Rookfield
Group Water Schemes.
Recently-appointed managers from four County Mayo group water schemes, joined three schemes from Sligo’s South East DBO bundle for training
in the NFGWS Quality assurance system. The course was held in the
