Donegal
Ireland’s most northerly group
water scheme, Bunn GWS in
Donegal’s Malin peninsula
recently became the first non-
DBO scheme to complete
training in the NFGWS
Quality Assurance system.
For several years the 90-
house scheme has been
implementing its own programme
of quality assurance
as part of a water service that
meets a very high standard.

Meenabool GWS in the
Gaeltacht area of west
Donegal is currently reorganising
as a co-operative,
Comharcumann Uisce An
Eargail Teo to reflect the
expansion of the scheme
throughout the Dún Lúiche
area as part of a major proposed
upgrade.
Monaghan
Following its recent successful
AGM and a further meeting
of the Federation sub
committee, schemes in the
County Monaghan GWS
Federation have been distributing
a 4-page newsletter to
their members.
This emphasises positive
developments in the county’s
rural water sector, in particular
the recent satisfactory
water quality results, as published
by the EPA.
As most schemes in
Monaghan have now completed
training in the Quality
Assurance system, this was
also highlighted, as were the
continuing activities of companies
selling unnecessary
undersink treatment systems.
The recent announcement re
water charges in schools has
prompted Monaghan
Federation to agree a strategy
that will see schemes working
with local schools to build
water conservation awareness.

Monaghan St Patrick’s Day

from the Tydavnet GWS area
provided an artistic focus on
the importance of water.
The schools’ participation
was funded by Tydavnet
GWS as part of a joint initiative
with the local St
Patrick’s Day parade committee.
An artist worked with
the school children over a
two-month period.

GWS is almost complete.

GWS is 85% complete.

March.
