The History of Glasney College, Penryn, Cornwall.<br />
On the 21st March 1468 a Sir (not a knight just a courtesy title) Richard Hygowe was instituted as Chaplain of the Chantry at<br />
Glasney College. A relative of Mary’s ?<br />

……… A pretie market towne situate on the heade of a Creeke of Falmouth hauen it is a Borrow towne, gouerned by a portreue. It is<br />
a libertie of the Bishop of Exeter, who without the towne hath a Mannor called Penryn e bryn. Penrin signifieth a Curled heade, and<br />
so is the seale of the towne. Walter Brumscombe Bishop of Exeter buylded at the ende of this towne the Abby of Glasenye,<br />
signifying the greene water; which Colledge one Graundesone, Bishop also of the same sea, indowed with greater reuenues: and in<br />
theis partes the Bishop of the same sea hath good reuenues and fayre woodes. Glunias is the parishe churche of the towne. This<br />
towne is verie well serued of all kynde of necessaries, yet not riche; for Truro taketh away all the trade of marchaundice, thowgh<br />
situate up further in the lande…………<br />
36 Cuthbert Tremayne<br />
chr 26 Sep 1582 Constantine, bur 08 Jan 1654 Constantine, marr Joan James 06 Oct 1634 Constantine.(no issue)<br />
It is recorded that he was an "Overseer" in the Constantine Parish according to the 1644 Parish Rate Book.<br />
His Constantine marriage is listed in the Phillimore Marriage Register Series. His given name was spelled Couthbert and her given<br />
name Johan.<br />
Cuthbert was recorded in the 1641 Protestation Returns at Constantine.<br />
Cuthbert was listed on a Subsidy Roll No 89/325 in 1641 at Constantine and is also listed on Subsidy Roll No 89/330 for the years<br />
1641-42 at Constantine.<br />
Joane Tremaine is listed as a Widow living at Eathnevas, Constantine on Subsidy Roll No 244/39 9th Oct 1660.<br />
Jane (sic Joan) Tremaine is listed as a Widow on a Hearth Tax Roll no 244/44 in the year 1664.<br />
Cuthbert’s Will is dated 4 th October 1653<br />
In the name of God Amen the fourth day of October in the year of our Lord God 1653 I Cuthbert Tremaine of the Parish of<br />
Constenton (Constantine) in the County of Cornwall being of perfect memory praised be God for it doe ordain and make this my last<br />
Will and Testament in mannor and form following. Ffirst I give and bequeathe my soule into the hands of Almighty God my maker<br />
and redeemer and in Jesus Christ my above saviour and my body to be buried in the Parishe church of Constenton aforsaid.<br />
Inprimis I give and bequeathe unto the poore of this parish thirty shillings.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto my brother John Tremaine tenne pounds and to his son John forty shillings.<br />
Item I give unto my sister Fflorence Peard eight pounds and to her daughter Mary twenty shillings and to be paid unto my sister<br />
quarterlie by my executor untill such time as the sum of eight pounds is paid her.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto my sister Margery Chigwin tenne shillings and to her children tenne shillings apeace.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto Thomas Clemowes two daughters Dorothy and Grace tenne shillings apeace.<br />
Item I give and bequeahte unto Peeter Quinell five pounds.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto Ffrancis Cara’s daughter Sarah fortie shillings and to his other three children twenty shillings apeace.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto Lovedye Harris fortie shillings.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto Chesson James tenne shillings.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto Ann Quinell tenne shillings and to Rich Roberts’s children tenne shillings apeace.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto Robert Tremain my Godsonne forty shillings and to the other brother and sister twenty shillings<br />
apeace.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto Tho: Roberts’s five children five shillings apeace.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto William Roberts’s seven children twelve pence apeace.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto George Treluddra’s two children five shillings apeace.<br />
Item I give unto Jo: Treluddra my Godsonne ten shillings.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto Arthur Richards twenty shillings and his sonne William five shillings.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto John Tremaine jnr all my land and houses after my wife’s decease which I hold by lease and the said<br />
John Tremain to paid unto Ffrancis Cara’s daughter Sarah as long as shee shall live out of the leased land five shillings yearly.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto my cozones (cousins) Thomasine and Margaret Tremaine tenne shillings apeace and to Christian<br />
Clemowe ten shillings.<br />
Item I give and bequeathe unto Sidrach Chigwin’s three children twenty shillings apeace.<br />
Item all the rest of my goods and chattels not given and bequeathed I doe hereby give and bequeathe unto Jone my wife and John<br />
Tremain “sonne” to Robert Tremain whom I doe hereby make my full and whole executor to satisfy my legacies given and<br />
bequeathed.<br />
In witness whereof I have hereunto putt my sign and seal the fourth day of October 1653.<br />
