Down to the final tages, crews are urrently performing alve replacements, ervice tie-ins and ipeline separations. uring these operations, ervice interruptions, lane losures and boil water dvisories are navoidable as new onstruction is completed nd old infrastructure needing attention is discovered and rectified. LOOKING AHEAD The City has been notifying residents/ business owners in areas affected by service interruptions and subsequent boil water advisories via hang tags and follow-up recorded phone calls. In addition, residents/business owners in an expanded area of the projected area to be affected are being notified as there is a remote chance these areas could also experience an interruption. If you do not receive a recorded phone message within 24-hrs of receipt of a hangtag, please contact City Hall to update your telephone number on record. Below is the current construction schedule for water valve replacements, service tie-ins and pipeline separations. Please note that this schedule is weather permitting and will move forward one day in the event of rain: • Hydrant replacement will be performed on Wednesday, 10/24 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Lyon Street. Expect service interruption and follow up boil water advisory to Lyon Street, Allen Street and Beverly Court. • New service areas are being reseeded this week. • Water line extension on N. Durham Avenue will be performed the latter part of the week. • A manhole replacement will be performed on Wilton Avenue just west of SGHS. Project #2: 500,000 gallon downtown Water Tank. A dedication ceremony was held October 1, 2012. A commemorative plaque was presented and is to be installed at the base of the water tower. Project #3: Cross City Trail Sidewalk Project (Phase I) The Cross City Trail Sidewalk Project (Phase I) is a federal and state funded project for the installation of city sidewalks running alongside NC 56 from downtown Creedmoor going east past B.C. Roberts ball fields, Creedmoor Elementary, South Granville High School, and ending at the Food Lion Shopping center and the Pine Valley Subdivision. These sidewalks will provide a safe route for families and school children to walk or ride to school and recreation sites without getting in cars and producing emissions, and it will keep them much safer walking along this section of NC 56. Citizens will recognize Centurion Construction as the contractor for this project as they are also the contractor for the USDA funded Water and Sewer Infrastructure project. • Crews will be working in the area of Pine Valley subdivision. Sidewalk pour in the Pine Valley area by the end of the week. Once poured, no more work will be conducted in this area until crews return at a later date to clean up and do final dressing. • Crews will also be working in the area of NC- 56 in front of the schools. Construction to be performed in this area this week with concrete pour to follow next week. One lane of traffic is expected to be closed for the duration of the next two weeks. • The City apologizes for any inconvenience and thanks its citizens for their patience. The City requests that citizens use caution when driving in the work zones as there may be unexpected traffic changes as well as work crews and construction equipment on-site. In addition, construction personnel will be surveying and performing site checks throughout the City; these workers will be easily identifiable by their vests and hard hats. As construction on our projects progresses, further updates will be available through our automatic email notification list. Kuhno comes to Murdoch Developmental Center after serving as director of the Division of ICF/ID Programs in Pennsylvania, where she was responsible for oversight and leadership of the state’s five developmental centers. Her extensive background includes serving as an advocacy specialist with Pennsylvania Protection and Advocacy, Inc., a federally funded, nonprofit agency responsible for providing protection and advocacy services to people with disabilities. Kuhno is a graduate of Westminster College in Pennsylvania and received a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She was a native of Granville County and the widow of the late Tillman “Tip” Jackson and the daughter of the late Dewey Young and Leora Currin Averett. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church and a member of the Open Door Sunday School Class. She was retired from John Umstead Hospital Dietary Department as a Supervisor. She loved to travel and did so as long as her health allowed. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Hwy 56 East, Creedmoor by Dr. Mark Tilley. A private burial will be in Bullock- Oakley Family Cemetery. Surviving are a daughter, Diane J. Edna was educated in the Granville County School System and was a member of Tally Ho Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Choir and various other ministries until her health declined. Survivors include her husband, Lester Johnson, two daughters, Ida Marie Archer of Durham and Mary Nell Smith of Oxford, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. BRENDA NEWTON WILKINS Brenda Newton Wilkins, age 72, a resident of 5683 Tabbs Creek Rd., Oxford, died Friday, October 19, 2012 after a lengthy illness with ALS(Lou Gehrig) disease. She was a native of Granville Co. and was the daughter of the late Stewart Edward and Newton. Mrs. Wilkins was a graduate of Berea High School. She was a longtime employee of the NC Dept. of Veterans Affairs and a retired Executive Secretary for the Masonic Home for Children. A member of Tabbs Creek Baptist Church, she was active in the WMU and prepared the church bulletins for both Tabbs Creek and Enon Churches. While health permitted, she was a member of the Mary Jamieson Woman’s Club, the Granville Gardeners and a graduate of Fuller’s Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Monday October 22, 2012 at Tabbs Creek Baptist Church by Rev. Ken Compton, Rev. Lemar Wheeler and Rev. David Grissom. Entombment followed at Meadowview Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Willie F. Wilkins; son Jeff S. Wilkins of Grifton, daughter-in-law, Amy Matthew Wilkins and granddaughter Jenna Wilkins both of Grifton; brother, Tommy Newton of Youngsville.
