HEALTHY LIVING EVENT A SUCCESS
To the Editor:
On behalf of Cardinal Innovations -Five County
Community Operations Center and the Granville-
Vance District Health Department, we would like to
thank the many individuals who contributed their time
and effort to make the Healthy Living for a Lifetime
Health Screening event such a success. The healthy
living for a lifetime program featured a state-of-theart,
echo-friendly 50-foot mobile health-screening unit.
They provided a variety of health screenings, including
blood pressure, total cholesterol, glucose, body mass
index, and vascular ultrasound to the residents of
Granville county rural North Carolinians at no cost!
A special thank you to the Granville County Farm
Bureau for supporting this initiative. We appreciate
the invaluable commitment and involvement to
improve the overall health of Granville County citizens.
The North Carolina Farm Bureau has a long history
of giving back to rural communities and have held free
screenings in all of the surrounding five county areas.
Healthy Living for a Lifetime is an excellent initiative,
not only because it offers free health screenings and
educational materials, but also because it helps people
become more aware of their health.
Preventive care is an important part, if not the most
important part, of staying healthy and curbing the
onset of chronic diseases like diabetes or heart disease.
We are excited to have worked with Farm Bureau to
provide these screenings and applaud their efforts to
make preventive care services more accessible to the
people of Granville County.
Most importantly, we would like to thank the
community who participated in the event. One hundred
fifty five persons turned out and made our efforts
worthwhile.
For those of you who discovered potential health
problems, I hope you follow up with the appropriate
Four Appellate Court
Seats To Be Decided
year, 2012 could be the
last time that North
Carolina voters go the
polls to select judges
without party labels.
State Republicans
have made no bones
about their distaste
about selecting judges on
a nonpartisan basis.
Former GOP state
chair Tom Fetzer noted
earlier this year that
many Republicans
believe the legislature's
decision in 2004 to drop
the Rs and Ds next to
judicial candidates'
names came because of
Republican successes in
judicial elections.
The argument for
dropping partisan labels
on the election ballot was
that the law shouldn't be
partisan.
This year, North
Carolina voters will
decide four appellate
court races without those
labels.
him in his office about
three years ago to see if a
him down.
"He’s slowed down a
his long-time assistant
then. "He’s in the office
"It was Betsy’s,"
Taylor told me a few years
ago. "He reads it every
everyday, too."
I bet Mr. Friday would
recommend that passage
for daily reading by each
of us.
