Johnson County Shrine Club Dave Alspaugh Leaves changing colors, temperatures getting cooler, footballs filling the air in stadiums on Friday, Saturday, and Sundays can only mean one thing … Halloween can’t be too far off. October already, where has 2007 gone? The Johnson County Shrine Club continues to be a busy spot. The place has seen quite a bit of activity the past couple of months. Early in August, the Club hosted a celebration honoring Walter Umbarger of Bargersville. This celebration was for his 50 years of Masonic membership. After cocktails, a buffet dinner was enjoyed by quite a crowd. Another festivity at the Club was a dinner celebrating the completion of the fifth Annual GM Motorcycle Rally. Fifty riders started at the Masonic Home in Franklin. They enjoyed a fun day exploring some back roads of Indiana. The round trip rally was more than 100 miles and lasted over six hours. There were a couple of stops for refreshments along the way. The ride concluded at our clubhouse later in the day. Grand Master Vaught was present to give the riders a grand sendoff at the start of the rally, presenting each rider with a GM pin. Representing the Johnson County Shrine Club on the ride were Brian Biehn, Ride Chairman, and Lady Jennifer. The ride raised $1,200, which will go to the Indiana Masonic Home Transportation Fund. After the Masonic Home Parade, the Club hosted our Potentate, Jerry Markovich, and Lady Dianah, the Divan, and several Units that took part in the parade. Hot dogs and drinks were the order of the day. A whole lot of fellowship was enjoyed by all in attendance. Other activities have included the yearly picnic, which was held at the Club. Everyone who came brought a covered dish, while the Club served the meat portion of the meal. As usual, a great afternoon was shared by all. We still have BINGO on Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings. As always, the Club never has enough help. Step up to the plate and give the Club an evening – it would be happily accepted. It doesn’t take that long. Come on fellows … help the Club out. Friday evenings still find our kitchen open and serving some mighty fine dinners. Come by and give that buffet a try. It has been rumored that the desserts are calorie free … that’s just a rumor, though. Before closing, the Shrine Club members would like to congratulate fellow member Larry DeVoss and Lady Jane. At Larry DeVoss and third prize wine winner. this year’s Indiana State Fair, they entered their lemon wine to be judged among the amateur division of wine makers. They were awarded a third place ribbon, and a bottle of the wine was on display throughout the entire fair. Good job for a very good tasting wine. As I close this issue, always remember … if you find yourself in a hole, the first thing you need to do is stop digging! See you in the next issue. NOTICE OF ELECTION December 17, 2007 THE STATED MEETINGS OF MURAT TEMPLE A.A.O.N.M.S.
