KEY INITIATIVES<br />
1. Established a new College of Nurs<strong>in</strong>g and Health Innovation to<br />
enhance the health sciences focus.<br />
2. Develop closer collaborations between UTA and the health<br />
sector through jo<strong>in</strong>t projects and appo<strong>in</strong>tments.<br />
3. Establish a Center for Eng<strong>in</strong>eer<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Medic<strong>in</strong>e to enhance<br />
translational research.<br />

bra<strong>in</strong>-mapp<strong>in</strong>g device to show<br />
cognitive dysfunction among<br />
student veterans with PTSD.<br />
Dr. Smith-Osborne employs the<br />
f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>gs <strong>in</strong> her work as pr<strong>in</strong>cipal<br />
<strong>in</strong>vestigator for UTA’s Student<br />
Veteran Project, which offers<br />
free services to veterans return<strong>in</strong>g<br />
to college.<br />

New College of Liberal Arts<br />
Dean Paul Wong is an acclaimed<br />
sociologist with expertise <strong>in</strong><br />
comparative racial and ethnic<br />
issues, substance abuse,<br />
community and mental health,<br />
education, and poverty and<br />
welfare. “UTA serves a student<br />
population and a surround<strong>in</strong>g<br />
area that are multi-ethnic,” he<br />
says. “We will play a major role <strong>in</strong><br />
shap<strong>in</strong>g the future of North Texas<br />
and the entire state.”<br />

Program. Dr. Borrelli says that<br />
“the physicians at Texas Health<br />
Arl<strong>in</strong>gton Memorial Hospital are<br />
giv<strong>in</strong>g UTA pre-med students<br />
a real-life understand<strong>in</strong>g of a<br />
doctor’s world.”<br />
