The Wandsworth Chamber of
Wandsworth is a thriving London
borough with extensive regeneration
projects especially around the Nine
Elms, Vauxhall area. These developments
include Battersea Power Station, New
Covent Garden and the American
Embassy which will all be linked by
the new Northern Line Extension. The
Fragile Life
On Sunday 13 September 2015 at
Chelsea Theatre, King’s Road, London,
17 year old Christina Carrafiell debuted
her play, Fragile Life.
The play written by Carrafiell was
a 50 minute piece exploring the duality
between ‘what could have been’ and
‘what has transpired’.
The play explored the journey of
two couples who simultaneously became
trapped within a lift. As the story
unfolded the characters’ personalities
were exposed leaving the audience with
questions. The characters’ respective
relationships, their personal setbacks and
what would happen upon escaping was
presents an excellent opportunity for
business from all walks of life to engage,
promote and share business interests via
regular networking events, workshops
and seminars. The Chamber is part of
London’s Local Chambers of Commerce
Forum, set up to bring local chambers
together. Each of its events is designed to
present opportunities for local businesses
to network, make new contacts and
develop new business relationships.
Wandsworth was once the heart of
industrial activity, with mills running
along the banks of the river Wandle. The
borough has one of the oldest brewing
sites at the Old Ram Brewery and a
host of factories lining the Thames. The
Chamber helps these businesses thrive
through mutual self-help and meets
monthly. For more information on the
Chamber, its networking opportunities,
and to join, visit wandsworthchamber.
org.
There’s also the Kensington and
Chelsea Chamber of Commerce
(KCCC) which will be holding a
Networking event at Sloane Square
Hotel, SW1W 8EG on Tuesday the
13th of October. This will be free to
attend but booking may be required. You
can do that at kccc.co.uk.
Finally, the London Chamber of
Commerce and Industry (LCCI),
based in 33 Queen Street, EC4R 1AP,
holds over 200 networking events every
year, including marketing and business
opportunities, tenders, free business,
legal and HR advice, as well as a range of
exclusive discounted services that include
a Members’ Lounge that provides a free
meeting space. It also commissions and
publishes research in areas of interest to
its members and is the Capital’s largest
independent networking and business
support organisation. For information,
The performance, created as a
fundraising event for the Anna Freud
Centre, a charity focussed on caring
and supporting young people with
mental health problems raised over
£2,000. “I wrote the play because I
became interested in the way we use and
process semantics in our daily lives……
I also wanted to explore how personal
insecurities can impact and hinder
relationships.” Said Carrafiell, who has
been an Anna Freud Charity patron
since the age of 15.
“It is wonderful to see young people
using their talents to help other young
people. Their support is incredibly valued
by the Centre” said Katy Vaughan,
Fundraising Manager, Anna Freud
Centre.
Carrafiell’s next step is to try to
take the play to the Edinburgh Fringe
Festival in 2016 and she will continue
fundraising for the Anna Freud Centre.
Chelsea
restaurant owner
arrested
after pointing shotgun at
taxi driver
By Simran Malhi
Richard Gladwin, 31, was arrested outside
his restaurant, Rabbit, in Chelsea by
armed police in the early hours of Friday
morning on the 28th August. Gladwin
was caught in a shooting stance pointing
a gun at a taxi driver whilst heavily
intoxicated. This comes after a separate
incident earlier this summer involving
one of the restaurants chefs, in a domestic
spat.
Passers-by witnessed Richard publicly
consuming champagne, even taking
his threatening behaviour outside the
premises by pointing the shotgun towards
pedestrians.
Rabbit was launched last year by
brothers Richard, Oliver and Gregory
Gladwin, who hoped to enthuse a
typically British ‘wild food’ experience for
its customers. They also own The Shed
in Notting Hill. However, after Friday’s
incident, the likelihood of Richard
Gladwin returning to his position is yet to
be determined.
London Gas Mains Replacement
Public exhibitions
National Grid would like to invite you to a public exhibition to hear
more about the essential work we are planning to replace and upgrade
the old metal gas mains in the Royal Borough of Kensington and
Chelsea and London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. To carry
out this work, King’s Road needs to be reduced to one-way
traffic for approximately eight months.
We have been transporting gas virtually unnoticed for over a century,
providing a reliable gas supply to more than two million customers in
London. Like other London infrastructure, it needs work to replace and
upgrade it.
council included comments from
the director of environmental health,
Nicholas Austin, who said Gladwin
appeared to be ‘heavily intoxicated’ as he
waved the gun around on display without
due care. He reportedly told police, “I’m
the bad guy, it’s me, it was fun. I took the
gun out.” Gladwin further went on to
explain, when brandishing the shotgun,
he did not feel it mattered as it was a
decommissioned weapon. He was arrested
minutes later when police arrived on the
scene, along with two other men (both
aged 27), on suspicion of possession of
a firearm with intent to cause fear of
violence. All three were later bailed to
return to the station at a later date in
September.
Gladwin and his restaurant manager,
who was also arrested, have been banned
from entering the restaurant until further
notice. The Met made a request for the
establishment’s license to be reviewed and
a council licensing hearing took place on
Tuesday 29th September. Mr Gladwin
and his manager, have also been banned
from the day-to-day operation of the
restaurant; ordering stock or handling any
other competent responsibilities of the
restaurant.
A spokesperson on Gladwin’s behalf
stated to the Daily Mail, “There was an
incident at Rabbit in August which is
being resolved in the correct manner.
Mr Gladwin is fully co-operating with
police”.
