22. Treasure hunt
Reason for activity
To teach children to follow clues and
instructions to overcome a challenge.
Time needed
20+ mins
What you will need
• Shoe box
• Digital camera
• Old magazines
• Scissors
• Glue
What to do
1. Turn a shoe box into a treasure box by covering it with stickers and cut outs from
old magazines. Fill up the treasure box with different tiny treasures like polished rocks,
beads, chocolate gold coin, balloons, old watches, pictures, special pen and any other
small treasure you can think of.
2. Take a picture of the items in the box, making sure each item is visible. Then hide the
items in different places in your house.
3. Get everyone involved in the hunt together and show them the picture you took
earlier. Send everyone to search for the items and return them to the treasure box. You
can give clues with the aid of a simple treasure map to mark specific areas to search.
Tips
Vary the location of your treasure hunt. Use outdoors if the
weather permits.
Put away breakable or sharp objects out of reach. Don’t make
each item too hard to fi nd. Give your child prompts such as,
“I think it might be over there!”
Time the treasure hunt to make it more fun and provide pace.
