23. Tidy-up box<br />
Reason for activity<br />
To increase children’s independence when they <strong>play</strong>,<br />
and teach them how to tidy up after <strong>play</strong>ing.<br />
What you will need<br />
• Selection of boxes or containers,<br />
i.e. small and large cardboard boxes<br />
• Photographs or drawings of toys<br />
• Glue stick.<br />
Time needed<br />
15+ mins<br />
What to do<br />
Together with your child label each box with a suitable photograph or drawing of a group of toys, i.e.<br />
cars, trains, Lego, dolls, crayons, animals, etc. Choose an area where the box(es) are to be kept and<br />
each time that your child has fi nished <strong>play</strong>ing with their toys, encourage them to put them into the<br />
right box. Praise your child whenever they put the right toy into the right box. This will increase their<br />
confi dence and encourage them to do it themselves.<br />
In addition to labelling each box with a photograph or picture for each group of toys, you can also write<br />
the name of the group of toys in large letters on the box.<br />
24. Waterproof finger puppets<br />

To turn your child’s bath time into a fun<br />
and entertaining experience. If you ever<br />
have trouble getting your child into the<br />
bath, this may be a sure way to get them<br />
to enjoy their bath time.<br />
Time needed<br />
15+ minutes<br />
What you will need<br />
• pair of rubber gloves<br />
• permanent markers<br />
• scissors<br />
What to do<br />
Wash a pair of rubber gloves, making sure<br />
all powdery residue from the packaging has<br />
been removed. Cut off the fi ngers of the<br />
gloves and use permanent markers to draw<br />
faces, hair, and other details. Allow the ink<br />
to dry and once ready, the show can begin.<br />
Tips<br />
• For safety, make sure your child doesn’t put<br />
their fi ngers in their mouths.<br />
• Encourage your child to put on a fi nger puppet<br />
show as this will promote their confi dence and<br />
language and communication skills.<br />
