European Parliament: During 2012 so far 110 Parliamentary
questions related to water
The high political profile attached to “water” is not least underlined by
an increasing number of Parliamentary questions by Members of the
European Parliament. Since January 2012, a total of 110 Parliamentary
questions related to water have been posed.
The list below provides, beyond those questions already reported in the
March 2012 and May 2012 editions of EWA News, author, political
group, and registration number of all water-related questions. The full
text of the questions (by a considerable majority to the European
Commission) and the replies by the institutions are available on the
Website of the European Parliament.

Austrian Water and Waste Management Association –
Österreichischer Wasser- und Abfallwirtschaftsverband (ÖWAV)
The ÖWAV as a Non-Profit Organisation is a neutral and independent
platform providing highly qualified education and training in the areas
of water, wastewater and waste management. In 2011 120 seminars and
trainings for over 7000 participants were organised. One of the next
upcoming events is the following:
The „River Engineering Conference 2012“ is held from September
19th to 21th 2012 in Bad Ischl. In this year the topic of the event is
„Flood Risk Management: analysis – evaluation - reduction -
communication“. Every three years the „River Engineering Conference“
brings together stakeholder in the field of river engineering due to upto-date
information presented by experts from Austria and its
neighbouring countries. The aim of the event is to focus on the change
of paradigm concerning flood protection. In the future local authorities
and citizens, in addition to appropriate authorities, will play a more
important role in the process of flood risk management. Furthermore
practical examples of river engineering will be examined. The conference
language will be German.

Final Conference: PILLS Project
After nearly 5 years the PILLS project will be finished by autumn 2012.
The findings of the joint work and experiences with hospital treatment
plants will be presented on September 19 th /20 th 2012 in Gelsenkirchen
(Germany). Here as well new strategies and politics regarding the
elimination of pharmaceutical residues in the aquatic environment and
precaution options will be discussed.
