GIFTING
The holiday season is upon us in full storm. Brightly colored lights pop up on our neighbor’s
homes and our families begin to call a little more often. Many of us set out on
determined missions in our downtime with one goal in mind: find the perfect gift.
It’s a quest that faces us year after year. Surely we know our spouses and friends well
enough to find a gift they will truly love. A gift that will show them how close attention
we pay to their innermost desires. We want to give something that’s meaningful, useful,
and hopefully not too expensive.
The holiday season can put so much pressure on us. Everyone wants to see the light
shine in someone’s eyes when they open their gift Christmas morning. We all want that
infamous squeal of delight, maybe even tears of joy. Sometimes, the pressure to find
the perfect gift can be so heavy that we lean in the totally opposite direction. Rather
than risk falling short, we give them what we know they need: gift card. Let them decide
what’s perfect for them.
Research suggests that giving
does actually make us
happier. Any person who
has managed to give
that “perfect” gift can
attest to that.
But what happens when
we fall short of that? Is it
enough to give a gift that
truly comes from the heart?
Is it really the thought that
counts?
Every year, the media throws new lists of hot gift items at us, encouraging us to spend
everything we have to prove to our family and friends how much we care. We’re told
that the higher the price tag and the more features, the better our gifts. It’s only after
we have burned through our wallets that we discover that the latest new and shiny
thing has already been set on the shelf in favor of something even shinier.
This year, rather than spending hours at malls and waiting in long lines for the latest and
greatest, perhaps we should all make a vow to give a gift that will burn into the soul of
our recipients. Seek to give a gift that speaks to their innermost spirit, rather than their
status. When tears fill their eyes, consider your mission accomplished.
HOROSCOPE
Aries
Go out and have some fun, but be careful
where your money’s going. No one likes
starting the new year with an empty wallet,
so make sure that you’re spending wisely to
avoid the fi nancial hangover.
Taurus
The season of holiday parties is upon us,
and this month will be good for you to get
out there and meet people. The end of the
month gets you into a good position to
meet someone that will connect you with a
group of people that will advance your goals.
Gemini
You’re not usually one to hold your tongue,
but think before you speak and it will pay off.
Some inward meditation might work, even it
if it’s something as simple as counting to ten
before saying something rash.
Cancer
The year is coming to close and you’ll
become nostalgic for what happened and
wonder what is to come. Look at what
didn’t work and resolve to do better over
the next year.
Leo
You have been focusing on expanding your
scope of knowledge and traveling to new
places, but now you want to relax and enjoy
some of the pleasures that you’ve been
putting off. Follow your instincts, because
they aren’t wrong.
Virgo
As the world slows down for the end of the
year, you just need to reminded that you
need to work even harder. Go out there
and fi nd the best ways to work from other
people, and you’ll fi nd your own system.
Libra
The crowds you draw are going to act
as a foil for your smaller home life, but
both are equally important. Draw the
balance you’re known for and you’ll end
the year on a good note.
Scorpio
As the year draws to a close, you may
want to look back and see what needs
to change. Start with your home and
family life and begin to do your new
year’s cleaning early.
Sagittarius
With all of the attention on you this
month, how will you choose to lead?
Your instincts are telling you to have fun
and not to worry about tomorrow, but
enjoy it for the rest of the year, as you’ll
have a lot of challenges to start the new
year with.
Capricorn
What have you been denying yourself
all year? Once you answer that question,
go out and take what you want, but be
careful to keep everything in balance.
Aquarius
Feel free to sparkle and dazzle while
you go off to the many parties you’ll be
invited to, but make sure to keep all of
your secrets close to the vest. You’ll feel
especially taciturn around Christmas, but
be sure to keep the mood light.
Pisces
The year draws to a close and all you
want to do is be at home or see the
friends that are visiting. Stick close to
them, and you’ll experience a revelation
for the direction your new year will take.
