Acknowledgements
The research team would like to acknowledge and thank the 1,021 people from across Northern
Ireland who took the time to respond to the postal survey. Their responses form the basis of
this research report. We hope the findings will offer some insight into how residents living in
interface areas feel about the peace walls in their area. The analysis of the 2015 survey responses,
along with a comparison of the results collected in the 2012 edition of this survey, may be
useful for those stakeholders currently considering how best to respond to the significant and
sensitive issues that exist in areas where peace walls are located. We would also like to thank the
Department of Justice (DOJ) who funded the survey. Maureen Treacy and the team at Perceptive
Insight who undertook the fieldwork; and colleagues in the School of Criminology, Politics and
Social Policy and the Institute for Research in Social Sciences (IRiSS) at Ulster University, who have
given feedback on various iterations of our work on peace walls. Thanks also go to our colleagues in
the Faculty of Social Sciences at Ulster University who worked diligently to ensure this project and
