tactical air command center – (DOD) The principal US Marine Corps air command and control agency from<br />

which air operations and air defense warning functions are directed. It is the senior agency of the US Marine<br />

air command and control system that serves as the operational command post of the aviation combat element<br />

commander. It provides the facility from which the aviation combat element commander and his battle staff<br />

plan, supervise, coordinate, and execute all current and future air operations in support of the Marine<br />

air-ground task force. The tactical air command center can provide integration, coordination, and direction<br />

of joint and combined air operations. Also called TACC (USMC). (JP 3-09.3) See ATP 3-01.15,<br />

tactical air control center – (DOD) The principal air operations installation (ship-based) from which all aircraft<br />

and air warning functions of tactical air operations are controlled. Also called TACC (USN). (JP 3-09.3) See<br />

ATP 3-01.15, ATP 3-52.2, ATP 3-60.2.<br />

tactical air control party – (DOD) A subordinate operational component of a tactical air control system designed<br />

to provide air liaison to land forces and for the control of aircraft. Also called TACP. (JP 3-09.3) See FM 3-09,<br />

FM 6-05, ATP 3-52.2.<br />

tactical air coordinator (airborne) – (DOD) An officer who coordinates, from an aircraft, the actions of other<br />

aircraft engaged in air support of ground or sea forces. Also called TAC(A). (JP 3-09.3) See FM 3-09.<br />

tactical assembly area – (DOD) An area that is generally out of the reach of light artillery and the location where<br />

units make final preparations (pre-combat checks and inspections) and rest, prior to moving to the line of<br />

departure. See also line of departure. Also called TAA. (JP 3-35) See ATP 3-35.<br />

tactical bridging – Bridges used for the immediate mobility support of combat maneuver forces in close combat.<br />

They are very often employed under the threat of direct or indirect fire and are intended to be used multiple<br />

times for short periods. (ATTP 3-90.4)<br />

tactical combat force – (DOD) A combat unit, with appropriate combat support and combat service support<br />

assets, that is assigned the mission of defeating Level III threats. Also called TCF. (JP 3-10) See ATP 3-91.<br />

tactical command post – A facility containing a tailored portion of a unit headquarters designed to control<br />

portions of an operation for a limited time. (FM 6-0)<br />

tactical control – (DOD) The authority over forces that is limited to the detailed direction and control of<br />

movements or maneuvers within the operational area necessary to accomplish missions or tasks assigned.<br />

Also called TACON. (JP 1) See ADRP 5-0, FM 3-09, FM 6-0, FM 6-05, ATP 4-32.16, ATP 3-53.1.<br />

tactical level of war – (DOD) The level of war at which battles and engagements are planned and executed to<br />

achieve military objectives assigned to tactical units or task forces. (JP 3-0) See ADP 3-90.<br />

tactical mission task – The specific activity performed by a unit while executing a form of tactical operation or<br />

form of maneuver. It may be expressed in terms of either actions by a friendly force or effects on an enemy<br />

force. See also mission statement, operation order. (FM 3-90-1)<br />

tactical questioning – (DOD) The field-expedient initial questioning for information of immediate tactical value<br />

of a captured or detained person at or near the point of capture and before the individual is placed in a<br />

detention facility. Also called TQ. (JP 3-63) See FM 1-04, FM 2-91.6.<br />

tactical road march – A rapid movement used to relocate units within an area of operations to prepare for combat<br />

operations. (ADRP 3-90) See also area of operations.<br />

tactics – (DOD) The employment and ordered arrangement of forces in relation to each other. (CJCSM 5120.01)<br />

tailgate medical support – An economy of force device employed primarily to retain maximum mobility during<br />

movement halts or to avoid the time and effort required to set up a formal, operational treatment facility (for<br />

example, during rapid advance and retrograde operations). (FM 4-<strong>02</strong>)<br />
