TCC Annual Report A year of highlights TCC had many reasons to National rankings, and designations as “the best” or “the fastest growing” became commonplace at Tacoma Community College during the 2007-2008 academic year. While last year kicked off with a Grand Reopening to celebrate several years of achievement and redevelopment, TCC did not lose momentum in the months that followed. Based on enrollment fall quarter, state officials recently forecast that Tacoma Community College will be the fastest-growing community college in the state over the next two years. Taking a look at highlights from last year shows some of the reasons why. Dir. Dan Small � Associate VP External Relations 16 TCC Magazine Fall 2008 In the last 12 months, Tacoma Community College: Enhanced and streamlined its student intake and advising model. The efforts helped create a 70 percent fall-to-winter retention rate for the first time in the college’s history. Placed third nationally in Grand Champion category and fourth in waste reduction in the RecycleMania competition among more than 400 colleges and universities. TCC was the toprated community college. TCC’s year-long focus on sustainability has continued into the 2008-2009 academic year. 25 to 44 n 33% Tacoma Community College Early Learning Center project was selected the winner of the Northwest Construction Consumer Council 2008 Distinguished Project Award for public projects under $10 million. Received a $250,000 grant to install solar power electric generating panels on campus. The panels are believed to be capable of generating enough power to recharge the batteries in its fleet of electric-powered security vehicles and campus maintenance fleet. Connected 474 students to service-learning opportunities and internships throughout the year that contributed to both education and community health. 44 + n 17% Student Age Under 25 n 50%
celebrate during the past year Supported the transition of 34 percent of adult basic education and English as a second language students to credit FTE students. TCC has the highest transition rate in the state. Were recognized nationally on the 2008 CCSSE for Active and Collaborative Learning and for Academic Challenge. TCC scored above the 80th percentile in both categories. Increased online course offerings by 22 percent over the previous year. Offered an all-time high of 1,190 courses during evening and weekend time periods. Launched its first, fully online degree program, Health Information Management. Enrollment in the program has increased 24 percent. State Allocation n 66.1% International Program n 3.4% Revenue Sources For Fiscal Year Ending June 30, 2008 Running Start n 3.9% Provided seven presentations at the 2008 Washington State Teaching & Learning Conference in Spokane highlighting model efforts to improve access and quality using technology. Began the Encore! Program to reach out and serve learners over age 50. Created and launched the Tribal Enterprise & Gaming Management degree program now offered on location at four tribal casinos. Designed career pathways in several Professional Technical programs, allowing job preparation certification at 15-credit-hour, 45-credit-hour and Associate-of-Applied-Science milestones to better serve students and businesses in need of qualified employees. Continuing Education & General Fees n 1.9% Tuition n 24.6% Restructured International Student Programs supporting significant increases in overall enrollment as well as enrollment in short-term language and culture programs. Increased revenue of the Continuing Education & Corporate Training Division by 32 percent.
