WELCOME ADDRESS
On behalf of the Hellenic, Romanian and Turkish Societies
of Gastroenterology and the Governing Board of the Mediterranean
Medical Society, I have the privilege and the honor
to invite you to attend the First Joint Meeting of the Greek,
Romanian and Turkish Societies of Gastroenterology, which
is going to be held at “Pentelikon” Hotel, Kifissia, Athens,
Greece. The meeting is organized by the Hellenic Society of
Gastroenterology, in collaboration with the Romanian and
the Turkish Gastroenterology Societies and the Governing
Board of the Mediterranean Medical Society. I would also
like to mention that the president of the Serbian Society of
Gastroenterology is also going to attend the meeting.
The aim of this meeting is to bring together the gastroenterology
societies of the neighboring Balkan countries, via an important
scientific meeting, We anticipate that organizing the meeting
each year in a different country, we would be able to achieve
our objectives more easily and efficiently. I hope that these
meetings will give the opportunity to all of us,
a) to investigate certain epidemiological and clinical parameters
of a number of clinical situations, which appear in the
Balkan region, and have possible different clinical behavior
compared to other western European countries, such as the
inflammatory bowel disease, the viral hepatitis, digestive cancer,
gastro esophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome,
gastrointestinal infections etc, and
b) to propose solutions, which could help the health authorities
of our countries to find out ways to solve these health
problems.
But above all, these meetings will give us the opportunity to
meet old friends and make new ones, an endeavor, which
could serve as a good example for politicians to remove the
barriers between people with different views concerning many
aspects of life including the religious ones.
Looking at the scientific program you can easily realize that
the agenda includes presentations and discussion concerning
gastrointestinal infections, colorectal cancer, inflammatory
bowel disease, viral hepatitis, gastrointestinal stromal tumors
and Helicobacter pylori infection. Moderators and discussants
are experienced colleagues with international recognition
and reputation.
Dear colleagues,
On behalf of the Hellenic, Romanian and Turkish Society of
Gastroenterology and the Governing Board of The Mediterranean
Medical Society, I welcome you all in the beautiful
city of Athens, the cradle of the western civilization, hoping
that we will make an important step in achieving our objectives
and expectations.
With my warmest regards
John K. Triantafillidis, M.D.
President of the Hellenic Society of Gastroenterology
