2015 TEAM CAPTAINS
• Offensively, 10th-year TE Marcedes Lewis (third consecutive year as
captain), the team’s longest-tenured player, and second-year QB Blake
Bortles (first selection), who set multiple rookie QB records in 2014, act
as captains. On defense, ninth-year LB Paul Posluszny, who has amassed
1,184 career tackles in 112 games (all starts), serves as one of Jacksonville’s
captains for the second consecutive season. For the special teams
unit, fourth-year P Bryan Anger serves as the captain for the first time
in his career. Anger’s 46.8 career-gross punting average is the highest
mark in franchise history.
NOTE OF THE WEEK I
• QB Blake Bortles ranks sixth among NFL QBs with 4,189 passing yards
in 2015, trailing only NE’s Tom Brady (4,636) and SD’s Philip Rivers
(4,564) in the AFC. Bortles has thrown for 250 yards in a franchise-record-tying
five straight games (Mark Brunell from Nov. 16-Dec. 14,
1997), including three 300-plus-yard performances (368 in Week 16 at
NO; 322 in Week 13 at TEN; 329 in Week 12 vs. SD).
• Bortles’ 4,189 passing yards in 2015 currently rank second all-time
in Jaguars single-season history, trailing only Mark Brunell (4,367) in
1996. Bortles, who is averaging 279.2 passing yards per game, is now
on pace for 4,468 passing yards in 2015. Bortles needs only 179 passing
yards to surpass Brunell’s single-season franchise record.
JAGUARS IN LONDON
• On Aug. 21, 2012, the Jaguars made history by becoming the first NFL
team to commit to playing four home games at London’s historic Wembley
Stadium. Jaguars Owner Shad Khan, along with NFL Commissioner Roger
Goodell, declared that the Jaguars would play one game each season in
the United Kingdom from 2013-16.
• Jacksonville defeated Buffalo, 34-31, in Week 7 at Wembley Stadium in
London, marking the club’s first-ever victory on foreign soil. Yahoo! Inc.
served as the NFL’s exclusive partner to deliver the first-ever live stream
of an NFL game to a global audience across mobile devices for free.
• During the 2016 season, the Jaguars will host AFC South rival Indianapolis
in a Week 4 matchup at Wembley Stadium.
