John’s Jottings
Welcome to Woodstock Park from The Club Secretary
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to Woodstock Park.
I hope you all had a great Christmas and thank you for visiting us today.
Our visitors on this Bank Holiday are Ramsgate. Welcome back here to Jim and Danny and
Ramsgates Players, Officials and supporters,
Thanks to today's match sponsors who are Hidson Mitsubushi. Hidsons of Rainham have
sponsored us a number of times over many years and we are very grateful to them for sponsoring
us again. More about Hidson’s further on in this programme.
Ramsgate are flying high in the league and have had a number of impressive results recently.
Our ex player, Joe Taylor is their leading goal scorer. He was of course our leading goal scorer
when he left us to try his luck at Farnborough. Other ex Brickies who may be in the Rams
squad today are Luke Girt, Ollie Gray, Ollie Brown, Nick Treadwell and Tom Loynes.
When we played Ramsgate at Southwood
at the end of August our performance in a
3-1 win was one of the best we have had
this season and we will certainly have to
attain that level to get a result today..
Our last home match against another Kent
rival, Chatham Town, saw us win only our
third match in 19 matches. A depressing
run that saw 13 one goal defeats. Since
the Chatham Town match we have gone
three matches (all away) without defeat. At South Park and Dorking Wanderers we achieved
our first draws of the season. We played Peacehaven & Telscombe at the right time because
they lost four experienced players just before our game due to a 50% budget cut. They fielded
four Under 21 players to fill the gaps. We went into the lead with a Steven Ita goal. If we
thought it was now going to be plain sailing to a victory we could not have been more wrong.
What Peacehaven lacked in skill they made up with enthusiasm and one goal just before half
time and one just after directly from a free kick put them into the lead. Credit though to Sittingbourne
because they now started to dominate the match. Two goals from Jono Richardson
put us back into the lead and we never looked back. The final whistle was a blessing to Peacehaven
because if the match had gone on for another five minutes it looked like we could have
got five more goals.
Unfortunately at Dorking Wanderers we lost two of our best players, George Crimmen and Steven
Ita to injury. Hopefully they will be fit to feature today. The Dorking pitch looked like a mud
bath at the end and although I am not a great fan of artificial pitches, with the recent wet weather,
I am reluctantly coming round to the idea that they are the future of the game.
Finally it just leaves me with saying thank you for supporting The Brickies through thick and
thin. We have a lot to look forward to in the future with the prospect of a new ground to look forward
too.
The Committee and players and all the staff at The Woodstock wish you all a Happy New Year
John.
