Q &A Q. Describe your business and
how you got started.
A. We actually never set out to be business
owners. I (Pam) had taken a leave of
absence from my teaching job at Maple
Hill and Kelly was working at her
husband’s place of business, Schodack
Auto, doing the bookkeeping. Kelly had
been a cosmetologist and was interested
in owning her own business someday, she
just hadn’t planned on it being so soon.
When we heard that the
original spa that was in this
location was closing, we
decided to take it over and
open our own day spa.
Q. Are you known for
anything special?
A. We are known for having
a friendly personable staff
and an elegant, comfortable
atmosphere. Our clients
receive premium services at
a reasonable price. We are
one of only spas in the area that can handle groups. We have
multiple rooms available. We are now able to offer Shavasana
eyelash extensions. They are applied to your own lashes and
look and feel completely natural. We are the exclusive retailer of
id Bare Escentuals mineral makeup in this area. If you’ve never
tried the makeup, we would love for you to stop by and get a
complimentary color match.
Q. What do you like most about your business?
A. We enjoy seeing clients out in the community whether it is
at the YMCA or the grocery store. Since we are both busy
working moms with 3 children ourselves, it is nice to see
women and men come in to relax and unwind. We all need to
de-stress and it feels good to have a client tell you how wonderful
his/her experience here was.

Q. What do you feel is your
biggest challenge with your
business?
A. Our biggest challenge is getting
people to come to Serenity, especially
from “across the river.” Once they
experience our atmosphere and
services, then we have a new happy
client; but getting them to come to
Rensselaer County can be challenging.
Q. What do you want the
community to
know about
you?
A. We are a full
service day spa
offering a variety of
massages, facials,
body treatments,
manicures, pedicures,
waxing and
hair services. We
want everyone to
know that they will
experience services here that are as good, if not better than,
anywhere else, and that they will feel welcome and relaxed
throughout their entire stay with us. We feel everyone deserves
some place to go where they can leave the stresses of the
world behind, and it is our pleasure to be able to provide that
experience for our clients. We also believe the “Spa experience”
is for EVERYONE and there is no need to come in your Sunday
best or feel intimidated.
