TUNNELS
WESTERSCHELDE
The Westerschelde tunnel, with its 6.6 kilometres length, is the longest traffic tunnel
in the Netherlands. When the tunnel was opened, a 24-hour connection between
Zuid-Beveland and Zeeuws-Vlaanderen was established which considerably improved
connectivity on a social and cultural area between these parts of the country. It also
became an alternative route to the south; transporters now have the opportunity
to avoid heavy traffic on the Antwerp ring road. The tunnel has two separate tunnel
tubes each with two traffic lanes and is considered to be one of the safest in Europe.
N.V. Westerscheldetunnel manages the tunnel. Multi Service chooses the most advantageous
