Freddy was always a good talker
so of course got his way.
Freddy loved flying, but his
parents wanted him to be a doctor.
In Egypt, parents have a lot of
control and influence even after
you are an adult.
Freddy was born in Cairo, Egypt.
Over his career, he flew for three
different airlines. He started in
Egypt but also flew for British Air
and Holland Air. He traveled all
over the world and spoke several
languages.
One day, he went into the dutyfree
store at the Cairo Airport…
and there he found a very
attractive sales girl. Her name was
Paula -she was 21years old and
he was 33.
In Egypt it was customary to ask
the father’s permission to marry
his daughter. He did some fast
talking and convinces Paula’s
father that he was the right guy for
her.
Freddy had a photographic
memory and was a quick study.
While he continued to work as an
airline pilot, he attended medical
school. After getting his doctorate,
he and Paula moved to Kuwait.
They lived there for a while, and
then decided to immigrate to the
U.S. Of course that meant Freddy
had to do another residency to be
licensed to practice in the U.S.
They arrived in New York in June,
too late for Freddy to enter a
residency program. Through their
very good fortune (and another
residence’s very bad fortune)
Freddy was able to enter the
program six months late when the
other resident had to leave
because of an illness in his family.
Freddy was always a workaholic.
He worked night and day in the
emergency room. Eventually, they
