Warren Foegele was selected by the Kingston Frontenacs in the 7th round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. While initially choosing to pursue his hockey dreams via the NCAA route, Foegele, who started this season playing for the University of New Hampshire, left to join the Kingston Frontenacs. We caught up with the 3rd round selection of Carolina Hurricanes. His move to the OHL with Kingston has proven fruitful and he’s found linemates who are a very elite skillset in Spencer Watson and Michael Dal Colle. We caught up with him recently after practice at Rogers K-Rock Centre. GameDay: You were drafted by the Kingston Frontenacs in the 7th round of the 2014 OHL Priority Selection. You chose to play in the NCAA initially instead of the OHL. Tell us about that route for hockey development. warren foegele: Back then I thought the NCAA was a better fit for me. After going there for a year and a bit I decided that going the other route (OHL) would be better for my hockey future. And now I’m enjoying it. GameDay: Coming to the OHL, where it’s a different experience than the NCAA. Do you feel it’s a better experience for you? warren foegele: Yes, I think it’s going really well. The team has been doing really well lately and I’m excited to be here. GameDay: The OHL has a 68 game season, almost double that of the NCAA. How are you preparing yourself for the more physically demanding season? warren foegele: I thought I had a good off season. I think that is going to come into play for this season. I know we play more games than the NCAA but I should be fine. GameDay: You were selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the 2014 NHL Draft, in the 3rd round, 67th overall. With the potential for a pro contract at the end of this season, what is your focus when you step out onto the ice? warren foegele: For now, it’s just about winning hockey games. For me, the team comes first and the two points that come with each win are what matters. If we can keep winning, hopefully we can go for a run in the playoffs, and that’s really what I’m looking forward to the most right now. GameDay: With almost a full season under your belt for the Kingston Frontenacs, how do you feel you’ve meshed with the team? warren foegele: Coming here, the guys have been really nice to me, the coaching staff have all been really supportive, and that’s continued into my play lately, just getting more and more comfortable and just feeling like a Frontenac. It’s been going really well. GameDay: You’ve only played a half-season of games at Rogers K- Rock Centre, but is Kingston starting to feel like home? warren foegele: Yes it is, I’m really enjoying it here.
