About the Author Cole Bunzel is a PhD candidate in the Department of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University, where his research focuses on the history of the Wahhabi movement in Saudi Arabia. An expert on jihadi thought and ideology, he is the author of From Paper State to Caliphate: The Ideology of the Islamic State (Brookings Institution, March 2015). He has previously held government and think tank positions related to Syria and Iraq in Washington, DC, and has lived in Syria and Saudi Arabia.
