Investigators (Scientific Enquiry: Materials and their properties)
IPC – Year 6 Blue
In our IPC topic of Investigators, we conducted many
experiments and tests as part of our “Forensic Training” to
become Tenby Junior Investigators!
At the completion of the training and as part of our assessment,
we were asked to investigate who was the culprit of the crime.
We had to utilise the investigative skills we developed through
our training, along with the clues found, to solve the crime.
The clues were:
A Styrofoam cup
The victim without shoes
A mysterious liquid found near the victim’s mouth and
throat
The victim had blistered lips
Head injury to the victim
A written note
As part of our training assessment, we conducted a colour chromatography test (to
check which pen was used to write the note), acidity test (to check the acidity of the
mysterious liquid), heat insulation test (to see which cup insulates heat the best) and
friction test (to check the slipperiness of the shoes found with each culprit).
After our investigations, we concluded that Ms White was the culprit. We had to
present our case and conclusion to the class. We all passed our training and were
awarded a certificate!
