The German School of Kuala Lumpur Futsal Tournament 2016 On Saturday 20th February, our Boy’s Football team ‘Tenby Titans’ went for a futsal tournament hosted by the German School of Kuala Lumpur. It was a 5-a side competition. Our school was represented by 2 teams; U15 and O15. Mr. Ricky, Mr. Darren and Mr. Mior were our coaches for this tournament, they gave us lots of tactics and solid formations that helped us give neat and powerful counter attacks. Everyone did a very good job and I, as a captain, was very proud of my team. The O15 team this year is made up of younger and less experienced players compared to our opponents and we were placed 5th out of 5 teams. Nevertheless it was a great experience for our players and they learnt to be persistent right to the end. On the other hand, the U15 led by Zul Irwan played very well. They managed to be placed 4th out of 8 teams. Although they missed a podium placing by just two points it was really good exposure for our younger players. By the end of the day, it was a long and tiring day for everyone including the coaches. I am proud to be the captain and excited about our wonderful team. I know our team members are on the verge of great things with a great team spirit, guided by Mr. Ricky, Mr. Darren and Mr. Mior. By Danaraj Pillai (Form 4) Netball MSSD & MSSPK On Wednesday 17th February, Tenby Schools Ipoh participated in the annual Netball MSSD. The School sent out the Tenby Titans U18 and U15 teams. The MSSD was held at SMK Seri Putera. U15 Netball reflections by Nicole (Year 10 Yellow) Everyone in the U15 team had an even chance of participating in the games. We played five games in total; we lost two matches to SMK Jati. We lost to them in the second round of round robin and also in the finals. It was a very close match with 4-5 in the first game and 4-6 in the second. We did a good job with our teamwork and really brought it together as a team, especially taking into account that many members of the team were new to working together. Our team put in our best effort, we played by the rules and we kept our spirits high. We emerged second in this competition and we were pretty proud of ourselves. We hope to become champions next time. On the second day of MSSD at SMK Tambun, the competition consisted of all the winning teams and runners’ up from the competition held on the previous day. It was based solely on knock out. We came up against one of the strongest teams, SMJK Ave Maria Convent and it was a close match and we did not give up easily. Eventually, we lost to them and we wished that we had the chance to play against other teams. We gained invaluable experience during the competition and had the chance to bond with other teams. We were lucky we got to play against so many good teams and learned so many new tactics and tricks. We hope to come out victorious again next year, as a more experienced and stronger team. U18 Netball reflections by Shing Yee (Year 10 Green) The U18 team was victorious all the way and got through to the final. We were so excited. We were runners-up in our zone and we went on to qualify for the district tournament that was held at SMK Tambun the next day. The playing system for this was via knock-out unlike the zone tournament which was organised as a round robin. This meant that once a team loses, they were out. We came up against one of the strongest teams in the knock-out who went on to make the top three. It was great to have qualified for the knock-out round. We gained a lot of experience and also enhanced our team spirit. We felt fortunate to be able to play against one of the strongest teams.
Journalism Club This week, the Secondary Journalism Club members enhanced their interviewing skills by each finding 5 students to interview about their thoughts of Tenby Schools Ipoh and the School’s Vision. In previous weeks, the members were taught about the type of questions to use when interviewing and the importance of their body language as an interviewer. They practised with each other during these sessions so the objective of this activity was to provide students with the opportunity to apply and practise these skills they have learnt with other students in the School.
