private music lessons 4 all 8 Private Music lessons Fall Semester 2012 Wed, Aug 22 2012 – Sun, Jan 20, 2013 (19 wks) elcome to the Music School at the W Community School of Music and Arts! We have been providing private and group music instruction in Silicon Valley for over 40 years. At CSMA students of all ages, abilities and levels develop skills and a love of music through private lessons. Private music lessons (offered year-round) include instruction in classical, contemporary, jazz and popular styles for students of all ages. CSMA has a large, multi-lingual faculty of more than 100 professional musicians and educators, including a category of instructors designated as Distinguished Teachers in recognition of their extraordinary professional experience. For faculty biographies and Distinguished Teachers, see www.arts4all.org/meet/our-faculty/music.htm lessons take place once a week at a regularly scheduled time and may be 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length. students must have an instrument available for daily practice. Weekly classes offer private lesson students additional training in musicianship, composition, music theory and ensemble. All Core Curriculum Classes are listed on pg 12 and designated with * on pgs 12, 15, 17-21. • WorKshop WeeKs To broaden each student’s musical experience, Workshop Weeks (offered Fall & Spring) feature a series of special workshop sessions, faculty performances and student ensemble events facilitated by CSMA faculty. Past weeks have included workshops such as: Recital Preparation, Juggling, Music History, and Composing Your Own Music. CSMA private lesson students may participate in multiple workshops. Fall Semester Workshop Week: tUE–SAt, OCt 23-27, 2012 Private lessons & music classes DO NOT meet these days. • sTuDENT RECiTals Student recitals at CSMA are given at the end of each semester and provide an invaluable opportunity for students to give a formal presentation and to gain confidence in front of an audience of family and friends. Additional Opportunities for Private lesson Students ABRSM Exams (Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music) CSMA hosts and prepares students for the practical and theory examinations of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), an international organization that operates music examinations in over 90 countries every year and is the world’s leading provider of graded music exams & assessments. Faculty select students for whom the ABRSM curriculum and performance challenge provide appropriate motivation and reward. Over 350 students from throughout Silicon Valley come to CSMA twice a year to perform for the ABRSM examiner who travels from london. CSMA offers students a comprehensive curriculum in preparation for exams. This includes private lessons & theory & aural training classes. Many of our faculty provide instruction in preparation for the ABRSM Practical Examination. This includes piece preparation, scales, sight reading & aural training. Select faculty also prepare students for the ABRSM Diploma levels. last year, of the 100+ CSMA students who took either the ABRSM Practical (includes performance and aural training) or Theory Exams, 100% passed. The world-wide exam pass rate is approximately 87%. Most CSMA students taking the exams annually pass with Distinction or Merit Distinction. Instrument Sound Samplers: One-Day Workshops Great opportunity for students considering private lessons. No prior experience needed. Each session allows students a “hands on” experience with instruments and guidance in choosing the right instrument. Two different sessions offered for specific ages. Parents/caregivers of all students strongly encouraged to attend.
