diseases of our time. We hope this
gathering will greatly assist everyone
working in medicine in
Kuwait,” Sheikh Talal said.
Importantly, he added that the conference
was focused on boosting
Ahmadi’s medical services for
2
Saudi Arabia Texaco Plays Host to KOC Team
Saudi Arabia Texaco played host to
the KOC/Texaco annual football
match held on October 23 in the Al-
Zor playgrounds. KOC Chairman &
Managing Director Farouk Al-
Zanki together with Saudi Arabia
Texaco President Ahmad Awad Al-
Omar and other senior officials
attended this exciting annual event.
To launch the match, Al-Omar welcomed
everyone who continued to
encourage on-going friendships
between employees of these two
companies. In turn, Al-Zanki high-
lighted the fact that such meetings,
begun by Al-Omar, reflected on the
on-going relationships between
KOC and Saudi Arabia Texaco.
The game itself was close. Both
teams had the advantage from time
to time. It was especially exciting
when Saudi Arabia Texaco scored
their first goal at the 7 minute mark.
Saudi Arabia Texaco narrowly beat
out KOC with a score of 3-2.
This was the third game in this
annual series. KOC won the two
previous games.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers
Kuwait section continued its 2005-
06 season with its 2nd major presentation
of the year New Era-
Jurassic Exploration in Kuwait:
Discoveries, Impact and Challenges
at the Radisson SAS hotel on 17
October.
Khaled Al-Saif, Kuwait, SPE
Chairman and KOC Manager,
Financial Services, welcomed
another packed house in the second
meeting of the fall season as a
KOC-sponsored event.
Guest speaker, Khalid Ali Al-
Sumaiti, EAMD, Exploration and
Production Development from
KOC, spoke about the new era of
revolutionary as well as strategic
thinking in exploring Jurassic formations
in North Kuwait.
He outlined the early developments
in drilling from 1951-1981. During
the 50s and 60s, development rather
than exploration was the way things
were done without a single test.
Wells were abandoned but never
really tested. Since 1995, events
have changed dramatically through
geo-scientific efforts with a new
framework, concepts and visions to
map fractures, target faults as well as
A Ghabga was held at the Radisson
SAS Hotel recently to honor planning
efforts for recent ‘Omragoers’.
C&MD, EAMDs, Group
Managers, TLs as well as ‘Omragoers’
gathered together for this
ceremony held during the last 10
days of Ramadan. Kuwait Airways
representatives as well as Masha’ir
for Hajj & Omra — the two organizations
that provided the facilities
— were also present.
Three trips were organized for
more than 300 employees and their
families. The Community Services
Team coordinated and organized
the trips.
EAMD (Administration) Ali Al-
Shammari described Community
Services as the ‘Good Initiatives
KOC News
Team’ for all their effort in arranging
these important trips. “Similar
to our meetings in the Holy City of
Makkah, this evening is a reflection
of the ‘One-Family Spirit’ that
brings all employees and their families
together to serve our beloved
country,” he said.
Al-Shammari thanked the members
of the Community Service
Development Committee for shouldering
many responsibilities. He
also thanked the pilgrims for their
cooperation and commitment in
this endeavor.
Kuwait Airways representatives as
well as Masha’ir for Hajj & Omra
received special recognition.
Shields were distributed at the
close of the evening Ghabga.
fractures and select exploratory locations.
“Basically,” he said, “KOC
now has a concept, a model and its
applications. Our three main objectives
are reserves, production as well
as oil & gas production. There are
huge associated gas/gas condensate
reservoirs here.” This new exploration
phase, which is separate from
the North Kuwait Project, is overand-above
KOC’s 2020 Strategy for
4 billion barrels per day.”
In a lively question-and-answer session,
he highlighted objectives and
strategies in more detail. He stressed
Organizers Honored for
Omra Trips
that KOC must work aggressively.
ìWe must think ‘win/win’. We must
understand the true extent of the
reservoirs and to do this we will
lease satellite EPFs on a 5-year
renewable basis. We will need experienced
people for the new rigs that
will be required. We will also plan
for high value over the next 5 years
as we work together with the marketing
people but first, we will need
much more detailed information
which will include H2S as a problem
to be solved, for example. We
plan to take full information into
account from area to area and use it
as our model for success.
Khalid Ali Al-Sumaiti concluded by
focusing on ‘One Team Spirit’
between the IOCs or Service
Providers and the KOC. “If we work
alone, it will take a long time but
when we work together with others,
things will happen sooner. The last
6-7 years have been very fruitful.
We have the best quality crude oils
in all the Middle East. Natural gas
reserves are now beginning that will
herald on a new era of self-sufficiency
in gas for Kuwait.”
Management Meets with Contractors
The Technical Services Directorate
met with contractors on October 25.
EAMD (Technical Services) Fahed
Al-Ajmi, Manager Major Projects
Issam Al-Houti, Manager
Engineering Kamel Al-Zaidan, Team
Leaders and Project Management
Consultants (Fluor, Parsons &
AMEC) as well as contractors work-
ing with Technical Services met
together at the Hilton hotel.
Fahed Al-Ajmi highlighted the fact
that KOC is currently undergoing a
critical phase in its development,
one that will have repercussions on
Kuwait as a whole, especially with
the signing of very important and
recent contracts. “Once these con-
4
tracts are signed, we have to monitor
closely their progress to ensure
that projects are carried out in a
timely and efficient manner. This is
why we continue to have these ongoing
monthly meetings,” he
remarked. Al-Ajmi congratulated
Major Projects and Engineering
Groups for their efforts in achieving
Fluor & AMEC Workshop Held
The Company Signs a
Contract with Delta
KOC recently signed a contract with Delta, a
Qatari company, to supply 5,000 psi wellheads.
EAMD (Administration) and Acting
EAMD (Oil Services) Ali Al-Shammari,
remarked that this contract — valued at KD 8
million over a four year period — was signed
according to the contract system called
Supply Chain Management, which was new
within the Kuwait Oil Company.
"This contract will guarantee better coordination
and cooperation between the two parties,"
Al-Shammari said. "We are very happy
to be signing this agreement with this Qatari
company. This reflects our policy of supporting
GCC companies. The geographic closeness
of Qatar to Kuwait will also shorten the
shipping period thus avoiding delays in delivery,"
he concluded.
Manager Major Projects Issam Al-
Houti, invited a number of group
managers, team leaders and
employees to a recent Fluor &
AMEC workshop. At this workshop,
two managers addressed the
group - Peter Wilson General
Manager, Fluor Company and Alec
Butler, Project Manager AMEC
Company. Then, an open forum followed
where everyone discussed
current suggestions and opinions
regarding best work practices, time
management and money.
Issam Al-Houti reminded everyone
that project execution is a key com-
the company strategy.
“We insist on best performance in all
our projects. This is our benchmark.
These meetings are welcome
because they provide us with a good
opportunity to meet with contractors
to exchange ideas and suggestions
about how to carry out our jobs at the
highest levels,” Al-Ajmi concluded.
ponent within KOC’s strategy.
"Because of work management and
execution, we continuously seek to
further our best work practices," he
said. "In this respect, PMC, Fluor
and AMEC suggested we organize
this small but important workshop."
These two guest speakers highlighted
important aspects of executive
procedures regarding work strategies
and projects. Group Managers
included Khaled Al-Khamees
(Opns.-E), Adnan Al-Aradi (Support
Services - S&E), Kamel Al-Zaidan
(Engineering) and Abdul Hussein
Al-Sarraf (Support Services -W).
