Ahmadi Hospital Organizes Gastroenterology & Hepatology Conference
In his opening speech, Sheikh Talal
enthusiastically welcomed wellknown
international specialists who
had joined together with their
Kuwaiti counterparts to focus on the
latest developments in the important
fields of gastroenterology and hepatology.
“This conference provides a great
opportunity for our medical special-
ists to meet with experts to
exchange experiences and firsthand
knowledge on how best to fight the
diseases of our time. We hope this
gathering will greatly assist everyone
working in medicine in
Kuwait,” Sheikh Talal said.
Importantly, he added that the conference
was focused on boosting
Ahmadi’s medical services for

employees working in Kuwait’s oil
industry. He thanked the organizers
for their excellent planning
efforts.

The three-day conference, ‘New
insights in Gastroenterology &
Hepatology’, was designed to
specifically update physicians and
surgeons on their knowledge and
experience in this vital field.
Presentations included a wide variety
of topics ranging from state-ofthe-art
diagnosis to applying the
most recent advances in medical
and surgical treatment in gastroenterology
and hepatology.
Saudi Arabia Texaco Plays Host to KOC Team
Saudi Arabia Texaco played host to
the KOC/Texaco annual football
match held on October 23 in the Al-
Zor playgrounds. KOC Chairman &
Managing Director Farouk Al-
Zanki together with Saudi Arabia
Texaco President Ahmad Awad Al-
Omar and other senior officials
attended this exciting annual event.
To launch the match, Al-Omar welcomed
everyone who continued to
encourage on-going friendships
between employees of these two
companies. In turn, Al-Zanki high-
lighted the fact that such meetings,
begun by Al-Omar, reflected on the
on-going relationships between
KOC and Saudi Arabia Texaco.
The game itself was close. Both
teams had the advantage from time
to time. It was especially exciting
when Saudi Arabia Texaco scored
their first goal at the 7 minute mark.
Saudi Arabia Texaco narrowly beat
out KOC with a score of 3-2.
This was the third game in this
annual series. KOC won the two
previous games.

06 season with its 2nd major presentation
of the year New Era-
Jurassic Exploration in Kuwait:
Discoveries, Impact and Challenges
at the Radisson SAS hotel on 17
October.

another packed house in the second
meeting of the fall season as a
KOC-sponsored event.
Guest speaker, Khalid Ali Al-
Sumaiti, EAMD, Exploration and
Production Development from
KOC, spoke about the new era of
revolutionary as well as strategic
thinking in exploring Jurassic formations
in North Kuwait.
He outlined the early developments
in drilling from 1951-1981. During
the 50s and 60s, development rather
than exploration was the way things
were done without a single test.
Wells were abandoned but never
really tested. Since 1995, events
have changed dramatically through
geo-scientific efforts with a new
framework, concepts and visions to
map fractures, target faults as well as

also thanked the pilgrims for their
cooperation and commitment in

plan to take full information into
account from area to area and use it
as our model for success.

alone, it will take a long time but
when we work together with others,
things will happen sooner. The last
6-7 years have been very fruitful.
We have the best quality crude oils
in all the Middle East. Natural gas
reserves are now beginning that will
herald on a new era of self-sufficiency
in gas for Kuwait.”

Fahed Al-Ajmi highlighted the fact
that KOC is currently undergoing a
critical phase in its development,
one that will have repercussions on
Kuwait as a whole, especially with
the signing of very important and
recent contracts. “Once these con-

tracts are signed, we have to monitor
closely their progress to ensure
that projects are carried out in a
timely and efficient manner. This is
why we continue to have these ongoing
monthly meetings,” he
remarked. Al-Ajmi congratulated

The Company Signs a
Contract with Delta
KOC recently signed a contract with Delta, a
Qatari company, to supply 5,000 psi wellheads.
EAMD (Administration) and Acting
EAMD (Oil Services) Ali Al-Shammari,
remarked that this contract — valued at KD 8
million over a four year period — was signed
according to the contract system called
Supply Chain Management, which was new
within the Kuwait Oil Company.
"This contract will guarantee better coordination
and cooperation between the two parties,"
Al-Shammari said. "We are very happy
to be signing this agreement with this Qatari
company. This reflects our policy of supporting
GCC companies. The geographic closeness
of Qatar to Kuwait will also shorten the
shipping period thus avoiding delays in delivery,"
he concluded.

Personnel Development Team at PSG Celebrates 100th Milestone
The Personnel Development Team,
Production Development Support
Group, celebrated its 100th meeting
in early October in the
Industrial area. It was a milestone
celebration. Team Leader
Personnel Development Manna’a
Al-Ajmi, Team Leader Drilling
Personnel Career Development,
Hamad Al-Kandari as well as team
members attended.
Manna'a Al-Ajmi spoke, “The
Personnel Development Team at the
Production Support Group was created
by the sub-surface in May
2003. There was a need to develop
tools and processes to manage staff
development in the sub-surface Job
Families (JF) of Geo-science,
PE/RE, Drilling, Well Surveillance
as well as Data Management.” The
team consists of representatives
from the concerned line groups as
well as the T&CR Group. “Together
they design, plan and implement
any in-house technical training program,”
he remarked.
Al-Ajmi underlined the fact that,
with the new training philosophy,
the Support Team has developed job
specific competencies for each JF in
each competency and at each grade
level. He commented, “The team
has identified also a range of ‘learning
actions’, which are designed to
help each person reach the required
standards in each area of competency
at each stage in their career.” He
noted, “The team has developed an

25 Employees Take ‘Modern Trends’ Course
The Career Development &
Planning Team organized a training
course at the Crowne Plaza hotel for
25 employees from different groups
across the company who attended it
in early October.
The course speaker, Dr. Najeeb Al-
Rifa’i, said, “Many KOC employees
had attended similar courses and
would continue during the next few
months. Each person taking the
training needed to be familiar with
this program; it helps to improve
performance which will eventually
benefit the entire organization,” Dr.
Al-Rifa’I remarked. “Advanced
information is made available to all

33 per cent Operations Transfer Still Remains in
Wafra Transfer Operations
The joint KOC/KGOC Team
responsible for the transfer of Wafra
Operations from the Kuwait Oil
Company to the Kuwait Gulf Oil
Company held a recent meeting in
mid-October in the Hubara Center.
Team Leader Qassem Al-Mejadi,
congratulated the exceptional
efforts of the team. Their achievements
had been higher than what
was expected. He remarked that

The first group medical students of the faculty of
medicine Kuwait University visited the company
late last September.
The group was received by Dr. Sabriya Saleh
Coordinator Medical group, and Samih Sarhan,
Senior Occupational Hygienist of the HSE
(South & East Kuwait) Team.
A presentation was made by Samih on the occupational
hazards in the oil industry after which
the group visited a drilling rig, well head and
gathering center.
Around the lunch table, acting Team Leader HSE
(S&EK) Hasan Al-Birami, Dr. Sabriya, and
Samih held a discussion with the medical students
on their observations in the fields. The students
were briefed about medical services rendered
to the oil sector employees through
Ahmadi hospital.

‘Model Employee’ Certificate Awarded to Engineer
The Management Support Group awarded Eng.
Khaled Al-Awadi with KOC’s ‘Model
Employee’ certificate for the last six months.
Group Manager Abdul Aziz Al-Mansour
remarked, “Al-Awadi truly deserved the award in
competition with his associates on technical
points.” The award symbolizes outstanding
achievements. This award is given twice a year to
the best employee in the Management Support
Group.
“Al-Awadi was given credit by his colleagues
and his team leader. I my self had tested him in
different occasions, and he proved to be an outstanding
employee,” Al-Mansour said.
Team Leader, Risk Management, Shehab
Abdullah, said that the award is tabulated according
to point-scoring that helps create friendly
competition among employees. “Al-Awadi is
dedicated, committed and creative at work,”
Abdullah said while pointing out that, at the same
time, Al-Awadi remains at the office after work
and comes early every morning.
Khaled Al-Awadi, Project Manager, spoke at this
award ceremony. “It is enough for me to have good
comments from my colleagues, team leader and
manager. This is a source of great satisfaction,” he
said. “Appreciation is a good thing. It creates an
incentive to give more time and effort to better the
company.” He concluded that he remains at the
office after work and comes early because he loves
his work and feels fulfilled in it. Al-Awadi was
awarded a shield and a certificate of appreciation.

Al-Sardi Visits Patients at Ahmadi Hospital

Ahmadi Hospital patients during
Eid Al-Fitr.
Dignitaries included Hospital
Manager Dr. Jamal Al-Ghanim,
Assistant Manager Primary &
Dental Services Dr. Aref Al-Abbasi,
Mrs. Awatef Al-Khamees,
Exploration Group, was awarded a
Master’s degree in Geochemistry
from the French Petroleum Institute
(IPF). The Master’s thesis was
defended on October 16 in PTC in
the presence of EAMD, North
Kuwait, Khalid Al-Sumaiti,
Manager Exploration Group
Menahi Al-Anzi and Team Leader
Exploration Studies, Salah Abdul
Malik in addition to the supervising
professors at IPF. This is the first
Master’s degree supervised and
funded by the Kuwait Oil Company.
The thesis was divided into two
parts. The first part tackled the geochemistry
and isotopes of Kuwait
oils and rock samples and the second
part focused on the hydrocarbon
generation and migration of
Najmah and Qusaibah source rocks
into Bahrah field, North Kuwait.
The professors discussed the thesis
plus the results of her thesis tests,
rock and core analysis. They also

‘Shehanah’ is God's Gift to her Parents
The mother gave birth to triplets
after only 22 weeks of pregnancy.
Unfortunately, two infants died, but
thank God, Shehanah survived.
He father, Abdullah Al-Utaibi, said
that he and his wife failed to have
children even after nine years of
marriage. “By God’s will, my wife
finally became pregnant, but she
gave birth to three girls after only
22 weeks. Unfortunately, two did
