The birthday boy had a golden paper crown on his head and
he seamed very pleased.
The Animatronics started to sing birthday songs. Jeremy,
dressed as Golden Freddy, clapped his hands over his head and
stirred up the kids to join in with the claps.
Toy Freddy pointed at the birthday boy, and Jeremy grabbed
his hand and helped him to climb to the stage.
The birthday boy took one clumsy step and fell on his face.
Some of the kids laughed and pointed their fingers at him.
Jeremy looked down at them with anger. He helped the boy
up, the boy smiled with embarrassment and rubbed his pants.
The Animatronics continued to play and sing, and the boy joined
them.
Jeremy looked back at the boys in the crowd. Something about
their laughing and finger pointing reminded him of the shame
he felt when he was crying and wetting his pants on a very
similar stage. Five of those kids, three boys and two girls, lost
interest in the show and sneaked to the Game Area.
Jeremy stepped down from the stage and approached the kids
who were playing the arcades away from the other children and
parents.
“Hello kids!” he exclaimed, trying to mimic a bear voice.
“Do you want to eat a cake?” he bent over and asked in a low
voice, as if he were making an exclusive offer, just for them.
“Yes!” The kids cried together as a choir.
