It's been a busy time for
membership over the past six
months with a wide range of
member events.
Themes have included the NUH Charity,
NUH’s financial challenge, a tour of
our hearing Biomedical Research
Unit, cancer services awareness in
the community, food in our hospitals
and dementia and the health of older
people.
Feedback reports on all of these events
can be found on the Members' section
of the NUH website. If you have any
ideas for events and what you would
like to learn about NUH then please get
in touch with me.
Over the next few months we are
looking to recruit more young members
(between the age of 16- 21).

Carers Event
In support of national Carers
Week 2016, we will be holding an
information event for carers. If you
are a local carer or someone that is
cared for please come along to find
out more about the services and
support available to you.

We face our toughest ever financial challenge. To help close the gap we have
taken the decision to reduce the number of hard copies of NUH News we print
and post to members.
NUH News is available online and via our monthly member e-bulletins.
Only members who ‘opt-in’ to receive a ‘hard-copy’ version will receive a copy in
the post. If you would like to register for a ‘hard copy’ please contact us.
Long Service
awards
2016
Thanks to the sponsorship from the
League of Friends QMC and the
League of Friends City Hospital, this
year’s Long Service Awards will be
held at the Nottingham Conference
Centre on 1 July.
The celebratory dinner and certificate
presentation will be hosted by Peter
Homa and Louise Scull. Long Service
Awards recognise those dedicated
colleagues who celebrate 25, 30
and 35 years of service with us. Look
out for our communication and
social media campaign highlighting
the journeys of some of these staff
members.

Thursday 5 May, 4-6pm

In today’s world, technology plays an
important role in every industry as well as
in our personal lives. Please come and see
how the use of technology is transforming
healthcare at NUH: hear about our
innovations, opportunities and challenges;
see presentations and demonstrations of
the tools we are using to improve clinical
practice and patient care.
This event will give you an opportunity to
reflect on technology used in healthcare
today and make you think about future
technology innovations.

Nursing Development
Thursday 7 April, 4-6pm
Postgraduate Education Centre, QMC
Learn about our journey to excellence
in nursing and midwifery care. Hear
from key members of our nursing
team on innovations such as Pocket
Midwife and initiatives including our
new international scholarship scheme.
We will also have presentations from
our advanced nurse practitioners and
student task force. The event will
include several information stands on a
variety of nursing development themes
including tissue viability, nursing and
midwifery research and preceptorship.

SUMMER ISSUE OUT JULY
New maternity
video tours
Mums and dads-to-be can now take
a virtual tour of our maternity units
on our website. A series of videos,
covering City and QMC, and a range
of different aspects of maternity care,
are available on www.nuh.nhs.uk.

on ‘Maternity’.
Nutrition and
Hydration Week
Our hospitals recently celebrated
Nutrition and Hydration Week with
a range of activities designed to
draw attention to the importance
of keeping patients well fed and
watered. Events included a Trustwide
afternoon tea party, mocktail
making, a hydration quiz and
staff from all areas of the hospital
volunteering as ‘dining companions’
and helping to serve meals to
patients. Even Chief Executive Peter
Homa donned an apron and got
involved!
