Introduction<br />
Building value in new cities was the main<br />
focus <strong>of</strong> the 2015 Cityquest-KAEC Forum<br />
<strong>and</strong> is an important topic on the role <strong>of</strong><br />
new cities within wider urban systems. All<br />
new cities must <strong>of</strong>fer investors, businesses<br />
<strong>and</strong>, most importantly, inhabitants, the right<br />
value for the investment required, <strong>and</strong> a<br />
lifestyle <strong>and</strong> ‘opportunity set’ that keeps<br />
them attractive over the long term.<br />
Emerging from the 2015 Forum, this report<br />
provides analysis <strong>and</strong> recommendations on<br />
key themes related to the goal <strong>of</strong> building<br />
value in new cities. Its main objective is to<br />
better underst<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> link together the<br />
different facets <strong>of</strong> value, <strong>and</strong> to encourage<br />
quality urban environments that deliver<br />
value for all.<br />
This report considers three different<br />
aspects <strong>of</strong> value for new cities:<br />
• The first part <strong>of</strong> the report explores the<br />
physical value <strong>of</strong> the infrastructure,<br />
built environment, <strong>and</strong> technology<br />
that new cities produce.<br />
• The second section examines<br />
strategies for creating value for<br />
businesses, <strong>and</strong> how this process can<br />
be encouraged through design<br />
strategy, vision, <strong>and</strong> policy.<br />
• The third section discusses the many<br />
intangible values recognized as some<br />
<strong>of</strong> the most attractive parts <strong>of</strong> urban<br />
living, such as community <strong>and</strong> identity<br />
<strong>of</strong> a city.<br />
