PERSPECTIVES ON THE LORD’S TABLE<br />
1. THE FIRST CUP - THE CUP OF THANKSGIVING<br />
The first cup of wine poured out by the head of the company give<br />
thanks. This is the cup of the Thanksgiving. It consists of two<br />
parts.<br />
1.The thanksgiving over the cup and<br />
2. a prayer for preservation till the return of the festival next year.<br />
The wine was to be mixed with warm water to the blood<br />
temperature by tradition blessed and was passed around.<br />
Luke 22:17-18 After taking the cup, he gave thanks and said,<br />
"Take this and divide it among you. For I tell you I will not drink<br />
again of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."<br />
Jesus gave thanks over the cup which was the simple prayer<br />
"Blessed art Thou, Yahweh God, who has created the fruit of the<br />
Vine." ; but he declined for the prayer of the return of the festival.<br />
This was to be the last Passover. The next festival to look<br />
forward to is not the passover, but the Kingdom Feast.<br />
1Cor. 10:16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give<br />
thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread<br />
that we break a participation in the body of Christ?<br />
2. WASHING OF HANDS<br />
This was followed by the first ceremonial washing of hands.<br />
Jesus took this occasion not to wash hands but to wash the feet<br />
of his disciples.<br />
