2.12 <strong>Quantum</strong> Non-locality<br />

In 1935 Einstein, with his collaborators Boris Podolsky and<br />

Nathan Rosen, published a list of objections to quantum<br />

mechanics, which has come to be known as "the EPR paper"<br />

One of this was the problem of nonlocality. The EPR paper<br />

argued that "no real change" could take place in one system<br />

because of a measurement performed on a distant second<br />

system, as quantum mechanics requires because it will violate<br />

the relativity principles.<br />

Einstein, B. Podolsky, N. Rosen: "Can quantum-mechanical<br />

description of physical reality be considered complete?"<br />

For example, consider a neutral-pi meson decaying into electron<br />

– positron pair. The spin of Pi meson is zero. Therefore, the<br />

total spin of electrons must be zero. Hence one of the electron<br />

will have spin (1/2) and the other spin (- ½). If the electron pair<br />

moves apart a million light years and we measure the spin of the<br />
