Archie, who attends St. Michael’s CofE School, is attempting to
Stagecoach Beeston’s Ryan
Pickard gets a red carpet
experience!
Not every 9 year old boy can say that they’ve been
on the red carpet in London, but Ryan Pickard (9)
from Ilkeston did this on Monday 22nd February!
Ryan was invited along at short notice due to his
role as Snooker Ball Kid in Sacha Baron Cohen’s new
feature film, Grimsby (15). Not only did he get to
walk the famous red carpet, but he got to arrive with
Sacha, and then pose with him for the press! He said
Ryan on the red
carpet before the
premiere started
it was “exciting, nerve wracking and scary”, but he loved every minute of it!
As Ryan is underage to watch the film, he was invited to a special kidfriendly
screening and pizza with several other child actors who also worked
on the film. Since the premiere, he has been on ITV news and BBC Radio
Derby for interviews.
Ryan, a student at Stagecoach Theatre Arts Beeston, has been involved
in the industry for the last 2 years after being signed by London agency
Bonnie & Betty. He also worked on the new Dad’s Army film, and is seen only
minutes into the start of the film speaking to Danny Mays & Emily Atack.
He doesn’t have any new work on the cards just yet, but is waiting for his
mum’s phone to ring for his next job! Watch this space!
Kate Ryder of Peafield Lane Academy said, “We had some
fantastic entries and found it very difficult to choose who should
win. Winners were selected for each phase group and they were
presented with an Easter Egg at a special assembly.”
Greythorn Primary School pupils collect education
boxes for fellow children in Syria
It is a story of one child giving a gift to another at Greythorn Primary School as pupils have collected
together education boxes for children in Syria.
Together with the school’s local parish church of St Paul’s, 114 boxes have been collected
containing writing and mathematics materials and colouring
books and pencils, which will be sent to children in Syria with
the help of the charity Hand in Hand for Syria.
The charity say that the boxes collected will now go to
areas that are under heavy fire and where children refuse or
cannot leave their homes.
The fundraising drive
raised £190 in February at
generosity and can’t wait to
go shopping for the children
celebrated Earth Hour for the second
year running. The theme this year was
to make lanterns that the children could
light during the hour long switch off of
lights. The children were encouraged
to turn off their lights and sit and talk
about the world they love or play a
game. During assembly the whole
school watched a small video that
tackled the issues of climate change and
it’s impact on our world.
The Allied Irish Bank (GB) Nottingham
business centre has donated £2500 to
Nottinghamshire YMCAs scholarship
fund. The scholarships are used to ensure
that families who might not be able to pay
for a place at Camp Williams still have the
opportunity to take part.
Clash of Knights
10.30am-5pm. Chain-mailed and adrenalinfuelled,
massed ranks of armoured knights meet
head on. Feel the heat of the battle as four teams
Revel in the atmosphere of the encampment as
it buzzes with the activity of everyday medieval
life. Enjoy merry music while your budding young
knights test their bravery on the field and burn off
what’s on where
Bolsover Castle
Bolsover Castle is urging you
to choose your side this May
– are you a hero or villain; a
cavalier or a roundhead?
Late May Bank holiday brings
the English Civil War back
to life with the castle under
Bag a bargain!
I’ve recently discovered an amazing factory shop in
Sutton called Label Traders… I think I must be a bit
slow off the mark because it was bustling when I went
in last week, so it appears like me, many other young
mums have discovered this hidden gem! I didn’t expect
to find such a great selection of kidswear – I came away
with various babygros ready for my new baby due in
June (and they were only £5 for a pack of 7!), and I
also picked up some pyjamas for my son. Everything is
ex high street so there are some really good bargains – I
even got a couple of new tops for myself! I can’t believe
I had never seen it before – it’s so convenient too as they
have free parking and much to my little boy’s delight,
there is a soft play area in store so he was kept amused
whilst I was busy shopping. I will definitely be going
back again!
Come and find out how
your child can ASPIRE
to a brighter future…
Choosing a secondary school is one of the most important decisions
you will have to make for you and your child. The decision making
process will be eased by gathering as much information in advance
of the October deadline. With this in mind, we would like to extend
an invitation to parents/carers and your child to come and tour the
Academy.
Sir William Robertson Academy is delighted at being judged as ‘Good’ in
all areas of the school following its Ofsted inspection in June 2015. The
school has been recognised as being one of the ‘Top 100 non-selective
state-funded schools in England’ in a recent letter from Nick Gibb MP
– Minister of State for Schools (February 2016).
The school fosters an aspirational ethos in which every child is expected
to achieve the very best they can in all that they do. Our pupils are
well supported through an engaging and dynamic academic curriculum
that is tailored to the needs of the individual. The school is well
resourced, with wonderful outdoor facilities for a wide range of
sporting activities. We offer a full and active programme of musical
and performing arts from our purpose built studios. Come and find
out how your child can ASPIRE to a brighter future by booking a personal
tour on 01400 272422 or join us at our Summer Open Evening on Thursday
30th June 2016. Please visit www.swracademy.org to find out more.
“Both of my children had a fantastic time and
came home eager to tell me all about what
they’d been doing in the day. I love the show at
kids have been up to, and the staff are always
really approachable, friendly and great to have
Love Your Clothes by Knowing
Your Care Labels #InsideOut
Discovering your clothes have shrunk in the wash is something we
can all relate to. According to the Love Your Clothes campaign,
31% of us are no longer wearing clothes from our wardrobes
because we’ve washed, dried or ironed them incorrectly.
In fact, 39 million items of clothes have not been worn in the past
year because we’ve not followed the care label.
Only 9% of UK adults can identify more than half of the
25 common care symbols that regularly appear on the labels
in our clothes.
To help people get to know their labels, Love Your Clothes has
teamed up with leading fabric care brand Ariel. Test what you
know by visiting www.loveyourclothes.org.uk/care-labels and
taking their quick three minute challenge. You can also download
a FREE arty care labels guide poster to frame and hang in your
laundry room.
While the symbols on care labels might look like secret coding,
they’re actually the key to making our clothes last longer. Following
them prevents clothes from being thrown away and potentially
heading to landfill.
Love Your Clothes encourages us all to change the way we buy,
care for and dispose of our clothing to help reduce the impact of
clothing on the environment. Visit www.loveyourclothes.org.uk
for tips and advice on how to get the best out of your clothes.
