Greythorn Primary School pupils collect education<br />

boxes for fel<strong>lo</strong>w children in Syria<br />

It is a story of one child giving a gift to another at Greythorn Primary School as pupils have collected<br />

together education boxes for children in Syria.<br />

Together with the school’s <strong>lo</strong>cal parish church of St Paul’s, 114 boxes have been collected<br />

containing writing and mathematics materials and co<strong>lo</strong>uring<br />

books and pencils, which will be sent to children in Syria with<br />

the help of the charity Hand in Hand for Syria.<br />

The charity say that the boxes collected will now go to<br />

areas that are under heavy fire and where children refuse or<br />

cannot leave their homes.<br />

family will deliver to the<br />

orphanage in person to<br />

buy much needed<br />

equipment.<br />

The fundraising drive<br />

raised £190 in February at<br />

a copper coin collection,<br />

Ernehale Infant School raised<br />

£300 from their Christmas<br />

performance collections<br />

and the Rainbows Dress<br />

Up Day between both<br />

schools raised £580. Added<br />

to donations from friends<br />

Rachel said, “We are totally<br />

overwhelmed by everyone’s<br />

generosity and can’t wait to<br />

go shopping for the children<br />

and the centre!”<br />

Wynndale Primary School recently<br />

celebrated Earth Hour for the second<br />

year running. The theme this year was<br />

to make lanterns that the children could<br />

light during the hour <strong>lo</strong>ng switch off of<br />

lights. The children were encouraged<br />

to turn off their lights and sit and talk<br />

about the world they <strong>lo</strong>ve or play a<br />

game. During assembly the whole<br />

school watched a small video that<br />

tackled the issues of climate change and<br />

it’s impact on our world.<br />

The Allied Irish Bank (GB) Nottingham<br />

business centre has donated £2500 to<br />

Nottinghamshire YMCAs scholarship<br />

fund. The scholarships are used to ensure<br />

that families who might not be able to pay<br />

for a place at Camp Williams still have the<br />

opportunity to take part.<br />

Parents of children who receive free school<br />

meals are eligible to apply for a scholarship.<br />

Each scholarship goes towards covering the<br />

cost of a place at Camp Williams for a family<br />

that may not otherwise be able to participate.<br />

raise £370 for guide dogs!<br />

Children from Beeston Fields Primary and<br />

Nursery School have raised a whopping £370<br />

to sponsor guide dog puppies. The children<br />

from foundation and reception years at the<br />

school held a biscuit sale and a disco to help<br />

raise the money.<br />
